dam0007 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Blew a gift card to bass pro on a bunch of them today along with some other random stuff. Couldn't justify $25 on a single 110. Not for me anyways. Quote
michael68w Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I have LIMITED exp. with the rc jerk and i like it. Great color selection and had no issues with them not running true or not suspending. Id change out the hooks and split rings but other then that i think its a great choice especially for the price. Quote
speed craw Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I have had some good success with them . As stated change out split rings and hooks , I upgraded and upsized to the mustard short shank 2x hooks . I am right with you on the higher priced jerkbaits , yet I always end up looking at them . Megabass jerkbaits look insane but the bills breaking is a definitely a no thanks . So it looks like I will eventually end up trying a few lucky crafts , but don't rule out the xcalibur EEratic shad , those have done nicely as well . I don't know if its the fact of they catch more fish or its just really affordable so I am willing to through it in places that a higher bait would make me cringe . Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 I've got 4 of them. Two suspended perfectly and two needed about 1/5 of a suspend strip. Split rings were decent but my rear trebel hook bent out when I attached it to the hook keeper and put tension on the line. I switched them out with #6 VMC outbarbs. I've had pretty decent luck with them. They are in my top 5 baits. Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 Swap out the split rings to owners and hooks to gammy reg # 4 (front) & 6 trebles. At that point check the suspending. Quote
TrapperJ Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 i grabbed a SQ bill and his jerk bait, quickly added more after a day on the lake. Once i realized what they were modeled after though no surprise. I still pulled the trigger on some Megabass after reading i just have to try this lure that is forged by the hands of great great great grandson of a samurai and infused with the spirit of a mighty warrior... or at least thats what i tell myself to justify the price. Super User iabass8 Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 I like the rc jerkbaits but it's a gamble weather or not you will get one that will suspend correctly. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 how much of a difference in price is it really if the first thing you have to do is swap out all the split rings and hooks, not to mention the time it takes.... Quote
11justin22 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 how much of a difference in price is it really if the first thing you have to do is swap out all the split rings and hooks, not to mention the time it takes.... megabass are $20-30.......rc are 7 plus a couple of dollars for hooks. Thats a pretty big difference...... Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 megabass are $20-30.......rc are 7 plus a couple of dollars for hooks. Thats a pretty big difference...... 20 pack of VMC outbard #6's are 6 bucks for 20 or so. Owner spit rings are 4-5 for 11. Even if you figured in 2 bucks for the hardware and the 10 minutes it takes to do it, its still a huge savings. I'm not saying one is better than the other as I have very limited experince with both baits, but if you are looking for a quality jerkbait under 10 bucks its hard to beat. Quote
bass1980 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Up north I wouldn't dare use Megabass 110's with Pikes and Ski's lurking around. The RC is good enough. Of the 4 I had I did have one that didn't suspend right. 1 Quote
dam0007 Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 +1 to what bass1980 said. I've lost lures to pike and pickerel before. Didn't even dawn on me. I have no prob swapping hooks. Was thinking about trying lucky crafts too. I love the Sammy's, would think their jerks are good too. Anyhow for 8 a piece on the RC jerks can't really complain. Thanks for the input guys! Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 For an under $10 jerkbait they compete favorably. I have a few that I keep on hand but it is far from a go to for me. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 For what it is worth, there isn't any jerkbait on the market that will suspend perfectly in all water temps, you'll get some that are perfect and others not so perfect, it has to do with the manufacturing process, even paint has some affect on the bait. For me, I can live with a bait that doesn't suspend perfect, if it rises slowly then I consider it good but you really have to check at the lake and all different water temps. I've had some that didn't come close to suspending until they hit 5' deep, I had some that couldn't suspend at 42 degrees but at 48 and 50 degrees it was really good. The RC STX is a good bait, and there are reasons some baits cost more than others, Japan has the same wage scale as we have here in the states so anything produced there will be more expensive but they also do a ton of R&D plus the exchange rate and all but one bait I think comes close to being worth the premium price is the Pointer. The reason is the suspending properties, Pointers suspend better out of the box in a wider range of water temps on average compared to others but if a bait is less expensive doesn't mean it isn't good. Comfortably Numb Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 The split ring prob was fixed a while ago on the luck r strikes.. IME the Pointer is a much better bait but douple the price. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 30, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 30, 2013 The split rings are fine now. The hooks are decent but still bend out under too much pressure so I change them straight out of the package. The French Pearl is a killer bait on smallmouth around here. I love fishing jerkbaits and I have a ton of them and they're in my top 5 baits for sure. Quote
grizzly1654 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I think they are talking about the new RC lucky strikes not the RC lucky craft jerkbaits. I saw them at walmart the other day. They look exactly like the megabass but for only $6.99. I was thinking about trying a couple myself. Quote

The only signature series jerkbait they have currently is the Stacey King baits. The Luck E Strikes are great jerkbaits and they do look almost exactly like a Megabass Vision 110. They're slightly different but I've had much better luck with my Luck E Strike baits, probably because I'm more willing to fish with them than I am my Megabass baits. $6.99 dammmm I paid 8.99 each I think. They're $9.29 at our BPS, $1.30 more than they were just a little over a year ago. They're still $7.99 everywhere else, no idea why they went up at BPS, but they'll price match local competitors so I still pay $7.99, just have to go through the hassle of getting them to price match them. Primus Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I have fished both and the Megabass has performed better for me than Copy E Strike. That said my number one jerkbait is an Ima Flit. Quote
