BassnChris Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Anyone use Save Phace mask while running in the boat? I am thinking about getting a save phace mask for running in inclement weather. I am thinking just the cheapest one I can find. Is there really much difference? I can see the welding/grinding masks being different but I can't really see much difference in the others. Thanks Chris Quote
Super User South FLA Posted November 28, 2013 Super User Posted November 28, 2013 I use mine pretty much all the time in the early mornings and late evenings while running the boat, its mandatory equipment once you have one. Keep an eye on Ebay they have deals come up. I got a pair for $75 not too long ago. Quote

RyneB Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Of all the things iv purchased for fishing, my Save Phace mask might be one of my smarter purchases. Not only does it help keep your face warm, but also keeps rain and bugs from hitting your face while on the move. Early October I was running my Ranger on the river to run her before I winterized. I was going 64 mph and saw some seagulls in the water. They usually get out of the way, well this one seagull was too slow to react. It hit my front Humminbird unit, then hit my windshield and then hit my face. No idea what would have happened if I didn't have my mask on, but im glad I didn't find out. I literally scared the you know what out of it and it was everywhere. Especially my windshield and mask. Its especially worth it on cold mornings when your making long runs. I got mine on sale at BPS for $50. I got the mask, 2 lenses, and the carrying bag. Its already paid for itself many times over. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 28, 2013 Super User Posted November 28, 2013 I'm in the market to purchase something. I have heard Save Phace masks have a tendency to fog up. Modular motorcycle helmets won't fog up and in some cases are less expensive. Snowmobile goggles with some kind of face covering will work as well. Quote

livetofish28 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Best purchase you can make. It's one of those things where once you get it you wonder how you went without it Tight lines Andrew 1 Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 28, 2013 Super User Posted November 28, 2013 Hat-glasses-balaclava. If I need to I'll tuck closer to the windshield Quote
Super User South FLA Posted November 28, 2013 Super User Posted November 28, 2013 Is there any difference between the paintball and fishing masks? The sports utility can't be used for paint ball since I believe its not impact tested, but the paint ball can be used both ways. My save phace has saved my face twice from snake birds that I hit and came over dash/windshield while running down the canal, and saved my buddy from getting speared in the neck by a snake bird, scary moment. A pair of glasses and a cloth face cover isn't going to cut it at over 60 MPH, sorry! 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 I got a save phace mask several years ago as part of my co-angler tournament kit. It is a handy tool. I didn't find that it fogged up. I don't carry it in my boat all the time. There are lots of times I go fishing where I never get my boat on plane, but when I am fishing a larger body of water where I am going to run a while, I use the mask. Even in the summer time - a June bug in the face isn't fun. 1 Quote
Super User South FLA Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 Heads up I found that anti-fog lens cleaner, like those used by scuba divers. Quote
bighed Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Be sure to get a clear lense for early mornings and low light conditions. Not something I put on every time out but it for sure has its place in my boat! 1 Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 They do tend to fog up but only if you have your face in a balaclava which is tucked up inside the mask. If it is open underneath your fine. I absolutely love mine. One of the most useful gifts I have ever gotten actually and I always have it in the boat, even through the summer when the bugs get bad. Take one bug to the eye at speed and you'll never run around without something on your eyes again. One of the main differences between the Save Phace and a paintball mask is that the paintball masks tend to be vented all over the place which when running a boat lets tons and tons of cold air through. The Save Phace is solid stopping everything coming at it. Only downside I see to them at all is it is hard to hear when your at speed with one on from the air moving around it 2 Quote

RyneB Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 i have never had it fog up on me. I am a tradesman and spend a lot of my winters outside in harsh conditions. I always leave my Save Phace in my truck, many times I have worn it to keep my face from getting numb and my eyes from watering. It is well worth the money. Last year we were on a fishing trip in southern Illinois in march. The 3 guys I was with made fun of me because I have a "ghostrider mask." That first morning we are running across the lake in 35 degree temps, my buddies face is tucked into his coat. I was doing just fine with my mask on. By the end of the trip they were all impressed with my "stupid mask." The one impressive thing is the lens doesn't scratch at all. I had a seagull hit it, countless times of mistreatment and with a decent cleaner, it looks like new. You will NOT regret your purchase. Quote

My buddy has about 4 or 5 of them ( one for him one for his dad) and replaces them when they get worn out but doesnt throw them away. The newer versions are better than the old ones from what I can tell. Quote
