pc9460 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Is the new 2014 Sierra v6 enough to tow a 14 ft v hull boat that I plan to buy? I would add decking to it which would add some weight. The new v6 sierras have 285hp and 305 torque and that seems like it would be enough. I would probably take it to the local lakes and might once in a while take haul it a little over an hour one way to out of town lakes. Mainly I would use it to commute to and from school 5 miles one way but want to be able to pull the boat around no problem. There are some pretty good offers on v6 sierra's which is making me think. BassnChris Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 17.135% of the boats loaded weight should be equal to the pulling vehicles horsepower. Example: my boat weighs 1850 loaded.......multiplied by 17.135%= 316.9975 HP. My truck has 317 hp so I'm good. ;-) Just kidding.......check the specs of towing vehicle, the loaded weight of your truck and see if it is within max tow weight. Quote

Unless the boat is made out of lead, you won't have any issues towing that little boat with that truck. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 28, 2013 Super User Posted November 28, 2013 If they offer a towing package I would suggest getting it. Normally consists of a trans cooler, oil cooler, a tow/haul mode which electronicaly changes the shift ratio on the trans, and maybe even a brake upgrade. Quote

tnriverluver Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 X2 No worries at all. X3 My 1998 Dodge Quad cab with 5.2 V-8 only produces something like 200 Hp and towed a 201 Stratos for over 50k miles like it wasn't there. Quote
livetofish28 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 You should be just fine we tow a 17"10 stratos with a v6 Hyundai Santa Fe you should be fine with that truck Quote
pc9460 Posted November 28, 2013 Author Posted November 28, 2013 How much would I be looking at for a rough estimate for total weight of a 14 ft boat decked out? Trying to get a general idea seeing that the Sierra v6 is rated for 6700 I believe. Quote

Super User S Hovanec Posted November 29, 2013 Super User Posted November 29, 2013 It will tow it just fine, but personally, I'd never own a full size truck without a V8 in it. Quote

I have a 20ft Lund with a 225 and it's less than 3000lbs empty Quote
Lewi Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Long story short, you could pull a 14' loaded with a 4 cylinder Truck/SUV/Car. okay...maybe not a car but a 2013 Honda Accord has a max towing cap of 1000 for an example. Quote
