Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 27, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 27, 2013 Maybe I've just been missing it on my visits to Academy but my buddy had one of these H2O Ultimate Jerk Shads when we went fishing last Thursday, looks a lot like the RC STX/Vision 110 style baits, but for $6. Some really good looking colors and if it's like the other H2O baits I'll bet it catches fish. My buddy caught some on his last week and I bought 3 I'm going to give a test drive today. The website says floating but he said his suspended perfect, which is what I'm hoping for. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h20-xpress-153-ultimate-jerk-shad-1-2-oz-floating-twitch-bait/pid-891753?color=Ghost+Shad&N=4294956313+97009336+4294966997 Quote
Missourifishin Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Please let us know how it works for you. If it does suspend perfectly I may have to add a couple to my shopping cart. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted November 27, 2013 Super User Posted November 27, 2013 Did he change the hooks out to get it to suspend or it just suspended as a stock item? Interested to hear your results Blue. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted November 27, 2013 Super User Posted November 27, 2013 I've been eyeballing them for awhike but the suspending models they do have took 3 dots to get it suspend. Our academy had about 3 colors only. They do look good and will come with good VMC hooks too. 1 Quote
grizzly1654 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Those do look good and for 6 bucks I may have to pick some up also. Let us know how they work. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 Any more updates on these? For the price I picked up a bunch to try myself since I'm in an area close to an Academy Quote

Yes they suspend and yes they worked very well for me so far I bought several more after my first couple trips with them. I replaced the hooks and split rings but I do that with most of my baits anyways. 1 Quote
primetime Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I guess it is like the Storm Twitch stick which is listed and sold as a suspending jerkbait, but is one of my favorite floating Jerkbaits for fishing shallow. Am I the only one who Noticed this? Storm lures are usually inexpensive so I was not surprised, but it has a nice action when fished with a straight retrieve with some flicks of the wrist and slight twitches. The Academy lures are great lures for the price and I love their swimbaits, especially for the price and their square bills have some nice paint jobs and you could pass them off as a lucky if you didn't put it in the water.....I wish we had Academy's here in Florida as I always see great deals on their site, but ordering online takes too long and I end up buying more than I need. I do want to try one of their baitcasting reels considering I had 2 of my top casting reels go down this week...Okuma Serrano-1.5 years old and knowing Okuma, they will replace it or give me a chance to switch to a different model...And another Revo, so I am done with Abu Garcia as their reels never hold up for me. I never have issues with Shimano, Daiwa, and Quantums...yet. Quote

I have 5 or 6 now and I really like the 4" size and they actually suspend pretty well out of the box, the smaller size 8 doesn't suspened at all but it only takes 1 to 1.5 suspend dots to fix it. I guess the size 8 is like 3.25" and the 10 is 4" and the 4" model is now a staple in my jerkbait arsenal. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 One of the few lures I have been wanting to try out and now I have to wait Quote

What hook did you replace it with, it says owner on the box but I think they are are thinner and less sharp than what I'd expect from owner Quote

Mine have 3 #6 Gamakatsu round bends on them now and suspend just fine. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 The ones on my boxes say Owner, they are much nicer hooks than the rc stx models. I couldn't help myself, added some dots to the tomato Quote
BlakeMolone Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Bringing this thread back to life, just picked up two at academy after breaking off my last one. I’ve just started using these and have seen decent results so far. Is anyone still fishing these things? If so how do you like them? Watching them in the water they have a nice super wide “glide” on a hard jerk and a nice lunge on a softer jerk. 1 Quote
lunkerboss923 Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 I've used them. You have to change hooks and add suspend dots. I'd recommend the Rick Clunn Luck e Strike Wal Marts. Quote

Watching them in the water they have a nice super wide “glide” on a hard jerk and a nice lunge on a softer jerk. I just picked three up today based on some older posts by @Bluebasser86. Two in Crackle and one in Ghost Shad. Swapped out the split rings for an Owner #4 oval line tie and Gamakatsu #3 Superlines, and hooks to #6 Gamakatsu EWG trebles. Walked out back just to make sure it suspended right with the new hardware and caught a bass on the second cast. Suspends perfectly and great action on the twitch. I've only fished with a handful of jerkbaits as it's never been a strength of mine (changing this year!), but I'm very impressed with the lure for only $6. Even with the hooks/rings I'm still only ~9 bucks. I'd pay $10 for this easily if Academy just put good hardware on it from the get-go, but it's an industry-wide problem so I can't single them out for it. 1 Quote
