BassAssassins14 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Best drop shot rod brand for preferably under 220$ Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted November 25, 2013 Super User Posted November 25, 2013 Which is better dark or white meat on a turkey? You'll get about as many responses to that question as you would the above. What are you talking, spinning or casting? Whats your prefrence spilt cork/eva or full cork/eva? What length do you prefer? That would narrow some choices down. Basically what I am trying to say is there is no "best" drop shot rod. Everyone has their prefence on what they think is the best. For me, I don't fish dropshot every often so I just use my 7' MF Abu Cardinal combo for it. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 25, 2013 Super User Posted November 25, 2013 Irods Air series 6'10" drop shot rod, with holiday discounts should meet your budget. Tom Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 25, 2013 Super User Posted November 25, 2013 I prefer dark meat Turkey! To the OP rockchalk is right that there are alot of outstanding options for a dropshot rod for that kind of money. Factor in a possible 15-25% off sale around the holidays and you can really get a solid rod. A dobyns 2 powered spinning rod in your preferred legnth would be a good bet. Also a shimano cumara 7'2 medium xf DS rod would also be a nice option. There really aren't many bad options and you will get tons of opinions from folks here. Quote
thehooligan Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Favorites for me would be the the shimano crucial, cumara, and cumulus line. For a smaller budget, cant go wrong with the fenwick elite tech smallmouth rod. 1 Quote
awefvawervwae Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 For that price point go get you a custom rod done how you want it. Quote
bighed Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 With the 20% off stuff going on around the net a St Croix Legend Tourney is a sweet heart of a rod and will come in right around $200 Quote
AMAC Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Denali Rosewood dropshot rod 7' M moderate tip http://www.denalirods.com/rosewooddropshotrod.aspx Rod is about $189 not sure about shipping to your location Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 25, 2013 Super User Posted November 25, 2013 Almost anything in the $100-220 range will be good Quote
sprint286 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I would go with Denali also The Rosewood line is awesome Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 No one brand has a monopoly on any specific technique plus drop shot is a terminal rig that can modified for many different circumstances. If you mean the traditional vertical finesse jigging a ML/XF 6'10" +/- on a high quality, light weight blank from whatever maker you choose is a good starting point. BTW, a nice custom can be done in the price range mentioned. Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 26, 2013 Super User Posted November 26, 2013 The OP is near Lake Havasu located on the Colorado river, CA/AZ border, is a deep canyon reservior with big Smallmouths, a good vertical drop shot lake at depths to 60'. One of the most popular DS rods on Havasu is iRod and the reason I suggested their DS rod. The Dobyn's Champion M/L makes a good DS rod, it's heavier and not a specific application rod. IRod Air uses high quality components and blank, I doubt a custom rod would be as good at this price point, plus iRods are available in tackle stores to touch and feel out west. Tom Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 27, 2013 Super User Posted November 27, 2013 Best one is the G. Loomis but it is over your price range. Any name brand name rod specifically for a drop shot presentation will suffice. Quote
CDobber Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I've been doing a lot of reading of late into drop-shot as its the one presentation I have not done much with yet, but have read very positive reviews. A wise person on this forum (roadwarrior perhaps) made a comment a couple weeks ago that is sticking with me......for any of this gear, stick with a brand that you already know and trust and try not to mix and match. That way, one gets a better feel for the differences between the equipment/price points while using the confidence they've already gained in something. I am paraphrasing and don't recall for sure who it was. It is easy to be overwhelmed when looking into something new, even with a great resource like this to read first hand, unbiased reviews. After settling on a Shimano rod (Compre) this summer in part based on what the local mom and pop had in stock, and liking the feel and response of that rod....I'm tending to narrow my selections down to Shimano for reels (Symetre and Stradic) as well as for drop shot options. Probably best not to over-analyze the vast selection and narrow down to a length, action, known brand and go from there. Quote
