livetofish28 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 So I have a mojo bass swimbait rod with a Lew's super duty that I use for my A-rig fishing. I want to start getting into chucking swimbaits and noticed that just about any 8 inch lure such as a hudd or a BBZ-1 aren't within the 1-4 oz lure ratings on the rod. From other owners of this rod that use them for swimbaits do u think that this rod would be able to handle lures such as the ones I mentioned above? Thanks in advance Tight lines Andrew Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 24, 2013 Super User Posted November 24, 2013 You need a heavier swimbait rod for 8" Hudds, suggest the 68" Hudd for a med/hvy swimbait rod,. Tom Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 24, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 24, 2013 I fish 8" Hudds on a 7' 10" H/F BPS Extreme that's rated for 1-3 ounce baits without any problem. Just make sure to make lob casts, no quick snap casts that will overload the rod, and you should be fine. I don't fish enough of the true bigger swimbaits to justify a rod just for them but I've had no problems fishing them on the rod I have. Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 24, 2013 Super User Posted November 24, 2013 If the upper 1/4-1/3 of a swimbait rod isn't strong enough for the lure weight you can't effectively cast or get good hook sets. Why compromise, use lure weight for the rod or get another rod. Tom Quote
Tartan34 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I have this rod, and I think anything over 4oz will be tough. Its a good rod to throw my 68 Hudd, but I'd be very cautious with an 8". It can be done, but will lose effectiveness as others mentioned. Quote
livetofish28 Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 Thanks for all the input guys I will probably just throw the 6 inch versions of said lures Virginia aint much of a big swimbait place anyway Quote

Thanks in advance Tight lines Andrew Rod will feel overloaded, 4oz too heavy for this rod. I like it for 1-2.5oz. Look at the crucial A-Rig rod. BEEASSSTT HUNTER Quote
