Guys... I believe we need to start trying earlier this time for the Va M&G.  Give people a chance to make plans, take off from work, prepare the family, etc.  I felt exceptionally bad about this year's fiasco as I was one of the planners and life (so to speak) got in the way with my changing of jobs and the passing of my Mother-in-law.  I will endevor to make 2014 happen.  I would like feedback and, if the feedback is positive, we will begin to make plans ASAP.  The intention, on my part as I have not spoken with any others, is to have this finalized by February 1, 2014.  I believe this will give all plenty of time to make arrangements.

I will suggest the following:

  1. Use this thread for a poll on "EVENT VOLUNTEERS" now.  You sign-up to help coordinate this M&G.
  2. Begin a "WHERE" poll based on suggestions on this (No where else) thread no later than December 1, 2013 and finalized by December 14, 2013
  3. Begin a "WHEN" poll based on suggestions on this (No where else) thread no later then December 14, 2013 and finalized by December 28, 2013.
  4. Begin a "COST" poll based on suggestions on this (No where else) thread no later then December 14, 2013 and finalized by December 28, 2013.
  5. Have a "SIGN-UP" thread started no later then January 1, 2014
  6. Choose a "Treasurer" on this thread (you suggest who) that will be responsible for collecting all fees (if any) and who will administer them in the chosen way.
  7. Try to have the M&G occur earlier than we planned in 2013 so school is not in and families can attend.
  8. Pick a camping and a hotel location and attempt to get special rates for all.
  9. Set up a final date no later than February 1, 2014 for all participants to have sent in their fees (if any).

Ok... your turn...

Kayak friendly would also be a plus for me...unless someone was willing to mothership me to a spot and then i could launch the yak from the boat and fish.

Depending on where and when it is you can fish out of my boat

give it time....cabin fever hasn't set in yet and many people are traveling and thinking about Christmas.....keep the thread alive and i would bet after the new year we will see more interest.

I can't believe you've given up after only seven posts!  Give it time, some will need to see where the event will be located before they know if they can do anything to help.

Lake Moomaw sounds good to me, I have a friend that lives near to it.

Well... I will start the Location Poll today and see where it goes...

I am pretty sure I will not be participating but I will be more than happy to offer any assistance that I can.

One thing that I had found out was that areas of interest , some have a fee to use their facilities , ie, picnic areas , sheltered areas , and so fourth , depending on the group size the fee also went up as the group size went up , be sure to call ahead of time when you choose several locations and have all of your options on the table before you decide on a location .

Anna was free from all of these charges at the state park .

Instead of trying to figure this out... all alone here in the planning (no insult intended to anyone)... I am going to extend an open invitation to all of you to come down here and fish Smith Mountain.  I live about 45 minutes from the State Park.  We just can pick a date... come down on Friday... I have enough room for camping... and we all head up to SML for Saturday and a cookout on my farm that evening and Sunday.

DUDE !!

I offered to help LOL !!  all joking aside , honestly , I will help you put it together , you have some interest here it seems so why don't we pick one spot for a gathering each year , a chance to fish a decent size fishery that offers a place for all who wish to participate , or we could pick 3 spots like this and rotate each year , it truly does seem that most all of the interest is in the Northern part of Va. and central part of Va.

My suggestion would be Lake Anna for the one , it has plenty of room to accommodate , it's centrally located between the two areas , really nice facilities , then I would suggest for rotation 3 or maybe 4 places to rotate , Lake Anna , Potomac , SML , Claytor Lake .

Just a suggestion !

Didn't want to speak for you, Brother.  I know you are busy.  Anna is fine with me... let's get this party started....

Well let's find out then , here is a question or two ,

One place or a few places ?

My suggestion for one would be at Anna , I think it's almost or close to the same travel for a lot of people , it's 96 miles for me , how far for everyone else ?

What places do you wish to have one at ?

My suggestion would be no more than 3 or 4 , it gives everyone a chance that can't make the longer runs something to look forward to next time around or two .

The real problem we run into is usually not enough boaters , that's the issue that should be thought out and made plans for .

So another question would be how many boaters would be willing to take a co angler out with them and at what cost ?

We need honest answers here , we know some will take others at no cost but if they break it , they buy it , same should go for boaters who would charge , how many boaters would offer a seat and at what cost ?

Thoughts and opinions ?

I for one do not ask for money.  As I stated in the last one... if a non-boater offers and insists... I will but I do not expect or require payment.  I will be out there no matter what.  I do agree with the break it/buy it rule.  Just common sense.  I would prefer Smith Mountain as we did Anna before but will not quibble over it.  Fishing is fishing.
