BassAssassins14 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 What's your favorite drop shot rod and what pound test line would you put on it?? Quote
MacP Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 My dropshot rod is a no-brand IM-8 blank from Pure fishing group. I think it came from a Pflueger President spinning combo. I love it. I drop shot 8lb fluoro mostly. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 21, 2013 Super User Posted November 21, 2013 6'10MLXF and 6lb line. Really though it depends on the user 1 Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted November 21, 2013 Super User Posted November 21, 2013 6'9" ML/XF - Shimano Crucial (Old Cork Handle) - 6'lb line 7' M/F Fenwick Aetos - 8lb line 1 Quote
thehooligan Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 6'10MLXF and 6lb line. Really though it depends on the user Same here. I'm using a 6'10 mlxf cumulus/Stradic ci4+ 1000f with 10lb braid And 6lb leader. Quote
Zimmer Man Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Gloomis make a great casting and spinning drop shot rod. I have the casting drop shot paired with a chronarch 50e with 8 lb invisx floro Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted November 21, 2013 Super User Posted November 21, 2013 I do more horizontal than vertical drop shotting and have been very pleased with my NRX 822 SYR with 4 pound Tatsu (gin clear water around here... have to keep a pretty light drag). Quote
BradGuenette Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 If I'm fishing vertical, watching the sonar and dropping down to the fish I use the Dobyns DX702 paired with 6lb seguar tatsu, the shorter rod really allows me to keep the bait in the right zone. When casting the bait out and working it back to the boat I prefer the Dobyns DX742 paired with 10lb sunline sx1/8lb fluro leader. Quote
BobP Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Shimano Crucial 6'8" Medium power dropshot rod, Shimano Biomaster 2500, any brand 6 or 8 lb fluoro. The Crucial is a true dropshot design with a hinged action (med power shank with light power fast action 18" tip) - perfect for the presentation and will handle 5+ lb bass. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 G Loomis NRX 822S DSR with 15 lb. Braid and an 8 lb. Flurocarbon leader. Quote
nwmike Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 powell703ef 8lbs line.shimano clarus 6'8" medium exfast with 10lbs braid 6lbs fluro leader Quote
AMAC Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Denali has a Jadewood 7' M for dropshotting, but I like the 7'2 Kovert spinning rod. 10lb braid 6-8lb floro leader Seaguar of course! 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 22, 2013 Super User Posted November 22, 2013 Depends on "where" I am dropshotting. For more open water, very light cover, or fishing deep straight down below the boat in the "cone" I am using a 6'9" ML/XF Abu Vendetta with 10lb Power Pro braid as mainline, and 6 or 8lb Seaguar Red label fluorocarbon leaders, with an Abu Orra S20 spinning reel. I usually use a 3/8's oz sinker in water less than 15' deep, and a 1/2' oz in 15'+. My go to hook is a #2 VMC spinshot, and I'll nose hook a variety of baits on it, with 4" finesse worms or small minnow shaped baits seeing the most use Bubba shotting, I use an Abu Vendetta 7'3" MH/XF casting with 30lb power pro braid, and 15, 17, or 20lb fluoro leaders depending on the thickness of the cover. Curado 51E reel. I usually use no LESS than a 1/2 oz. sinker for this, and some times as much as 1oz. depending on the thickness of cover. I like 2/0 or 3/0 VMC EWG spinshots for hooks, and will use the same baits on this rig as I would flipping, and pitching T-rigs, stuff like full size creatures and craws, worms of all shapes and sizes etc... skeletor6 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Mine right now is an NRX 822SYR. I am sure the DSR would be even better. However, a Cumara CUSDX72M is a great buy for those who like casting a shot. For line, I go with 8# or 6# Seaguar Tatsu. The best finesse line I have used. Quote
livetofish28 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 6"10 MLXF St Croix Rage spinning rod 10# Power Pro and 8# trilene 100% fluoro leader Quote
