RNSkeeter Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I just tried out my first Lucky Craft 78 SP today. Bait was amazing - I hadn't used jerk baits very much but right away I could see I liked this kind of bait and need to a handful to cover various depths. Only problems was within an hour of tying it on it started nose-diving on pause. After inspection I found it was completely full of water! Has this happened to anyone else before? Here's the rub, I bought it off Ebay, out of package. It looks legit, It's a ghost minnow and I can see all the internals - doesn't look like a knock off. Has anyone gotten fake lures from Ebay, or do Lucky crafts sometimes just have a bad lure? *ADDED PICS* Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted November 18, 2013 Super User Posted November 18, 2013 does it say lucky craft on it? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted November 18, 2013 Super User Posted November 18, 2013 Post a pic. There are tons of fakes on fleabay! Jeff Quote
RNSkeeter Posted November 18, 2013 Author Posted November 18, 2013 Added pics! No it doesn't say lucky craft, just pointer SP. Original fleabay listing specifically says it is lucky craft. I looked back at the Lucky craft site and it's definitely not a match, but it does match the image from tackle warehouse. I'm assuming they updated the line? I see two brass weights in the new model vs one in the TW model, and the eyelet is protruding from the nose and not the bill. Mine seems to be (or mimic) the TW model Lucky Craft pointer 78 http://www.luckycraft.com/luckycrafthome/products/jerkbait/pointer78sp.htm Tackle Warehouse pointer minnow http://www.***.com/Lucky_Craft_Pointer_Minnow/descpage-LCPT.html#multiview Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted November 18, 2013 Super User Posted November 18, 2013 If the bait wasn't in the package, it was probably damaged. That's why it ended up on ebay. Ok, just looked at my 78's and they are different. Mine have 2 brass weights in the front, one on either side of the front hook post and they don't have any balls, except for a small one in the head. The pictures on TW are of the 100's, the weighting is different than the 78's. Also, the color on your bait doesn't look right, if it's ghost minnow. It should have brown in the head and a white belly that you can't see through without holding it up to the light. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 18, 2013 Super User Posted November 18, 2013 I don't want to infer that you may have received a damaged bait or a knock off but something seems fishy here. I have heard of similar things happening especially for megabass products. I know the prices can be good but I try to avoid buying things on eBay that the deal seems to good to be true. Sorry about your experience. I have been using the various pointer lines for 3 years and haven't had any issues. Maybe contact the seller and if needed file a complaint? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 18, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 18, 2013 I have dozens of LC pointers and have never had a single one take on water. Only thing I've ever had happen was break a bill off but that's always after a bait bounces off a rock or smacks the side of the boat. I'd probably drill the smallest hole you can in the belly to drain it then use a sealant over the hole, the seams of the bait, and around the hook hangers and line tie. Of course I'd do that after trying to contact the seller and filing a complaint if he doesn't try to make it right. Quote
alexandboi Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 The color seems a little off for being a ghost minnow. Like stated above the head and top are more of a brown color. The weights on mine are also two brass weights on both sides of the front hook. Quote
