S_Miketa6 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I kind of have a good problem going but want to get everyone's thoughts....I will either be buying an (8ft Minn Kota Talon) or both (Lowrance Elite 7x HDI) and ( (Lowrance 5x HDI)....So the real question is should I upgrade the electronics or buy a Talon and yes I have made up my mind on a Talon and not a Power Pole and Lowrance and not Humminbird haha Thanks Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 16, 2013 Super User Posted November 16, 2013 Depends what your dealing with now. Is your electronics that out of date? or You getting blown around to where you need a shallow anchor. what's more important to you Quote
S_Miketa6 Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 Thats the thing the electronics are out of date and a lot of the lakes I fish aren't very deep and I would love a Talon when Im flipping docks/brush etc. But I will be fishing a lot of new lakes this year also, the electronics will help me for both new and old lakes too. So really both benefit me, but as of now Im leaning towards new electronics!! Quote
BassnChris Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I agree with tomustang. It depends on what your 'needs' are. Last year I bought a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen2Touch and a HDS 10 Gen1. But I needed electronics. A power pole or talon would be nice but for my style/location of fishing a shallow anchor is only applicable to maybe 5% of my time on the water. But I am sure you will make the right decision for you. Good luck and have fun with whatever new toys you get. Quote
S_Miketa6 Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 Thats another good point, I fish with my neighbor a little to and he has a Power Pole and when I have been with him we have never used it and we probably could of but just didn't really think of it at the moment, so its starting to be clearer which I would be using more!!! pancityhanman Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 i have an elite 7 hdi at the console and an hds 5 up in front along with a flasher.like them both i have always had lowrance, seems customer support has taken a dive though. Quote
Smokinal Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Electronics without question. I have found so many offshore spots with better finders, it's amazing. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 16, 2013 Super User Posted November 16, 2013 IMO A shallow water anchor is invaluable for fishing shallow water docks and beds and for sitting shallow and casting deep. If what you do is mostly shallow water I would definitely do the Talon first. If it's deeper water, then do the electronics first. I use the Talon quite extensively thru the spring and summer on my home water. There are other places I fish where it never gets used. Quote
