Preytorien Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I'm hitting a local body of water this weekend. Along with jigs I'm planning on trying a jerkbait. For stained water what color should I use, or should I even try a JB in stained water? It's mostly a sight-based lure isn't it? Quote
tholmes Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I fish jerkbaits in stained water all the time. Anything flashy, like chrome or gold works. The only colors I haven't had much success with are perch and clear. YMMV. Tom Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 16, 2013 Super User Posted November 16, 2013 Start with your favorite color, it will probably be just fine. Yep. Traditional rule of thumb, dark lure for dark water and light lure for lighter colored water. 1 Quote
cadman Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I've had very good success with Husky Jerks in the chrome and black color. Quote

KritterGitter Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Yep. Traditional rule of thumb, dark lure for dark water and light lure for lighter colored water. Not trying to hijack here, but Ive always wondered why this is the case? Ive always figured it was opposite, lighter lure easier to see in darker water and vice versa... Now since Ive come to this forum I do it traditionally, with success, but def not understanding why. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I like Firetiger in stained water. Make sure it rattles and suspends. Quote
KyakR Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I try to focus on action (sound, vibration) even more than sight Quote
