WhiteMike1018 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Went to my local wal-mart tonight to pick up a few necesseties and decided to take a stroll down the fishing section. Picked up a Tessera 7"2 jig/worm on sale for $54. I inspected the guides etc, everyhting looked fine. I needed a jig rod for this coming year anyway as its something I need to learn and I always want to have one tied on. Anyways I know its not the best rod on the market and a lot of people arent too fond of them, but I own the spinnerbait/worm rod and I have to say i absolutely love it. The rod loads up nice when I do a sweep set with my spinnerbaits. I've never fished it with a worm yet and dont intend to. Mostly i throw 1/4 -3/8 ounce spinnerbaits and chatterbaits on it and never had a fish throw the hook yet, and the rod is pretty light. Anyways if you were thinking about trying this/these rods stop by your local wal-mart they might have some on sale. -Mike Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted November 15, 2013 Super User Posted November 15, 2013 i broke one of them at walmart the other night...good luck Quote
georgeyew Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 You can't judge the rods based on one broken one that you see at Walmart. 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted November 16, 2013 Super User Posted November 16, 2013 1. Iffy reviews about their durability 2. Walmart stocking practices I'm just saying you should thoroughly check the rod to make sure it will flex some without breaking, not just giving it a visual inspection. I wiggled a medium action one and it snapped about 4 inches from tip. Was it wright and mcgills fault, or was it thrown around and weakened? Maybe a mix of both. Quote
Smokinal Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I have one of those 7-2 jig/worm rods and one of Skeet's S-Glass cranking rods. Love em both. 1 Quote

mjseverson24 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I love how people bash these rods, I have a few and they are just as good if not better than any of the rods in there price range. Good enough to bring home an AOY title for chapman. For 55 bucks that is a good buy. Mitch 1 Quote
nwmike Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I had 3 of the micro guide rods at one point.i really had no complaints about the blank but the micro guide inserts kept falling out so I got rid of them.if the standard guides hold up better than it will be a great rod Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 So today I went out and put my PQ on it and it felt great. I pulled on the line a lot to test the flexibility of the tip and it bends great. I dont understand how someone could snap one of these rods. I dont use a whole lot of braid anyway so that shouldn't be a problem for me. Cant wait till next year! Quote
Smokinal Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 You cant buy a better rod for $54. Obviously, every product out there is going to have a fail story. I would never own another AllStar rod as I had 3 break on me swinging 2 lbers. I swing 4's on every single other rod I own and never had one break. 3 of the same brand...never again. For $54, I'd buy every one on the rack, put them on ebay or craigslist and you would have 2 for free. 1 Quote
