Brian6428 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Hey guys, looking for a new BC reel in the price range of $120-130. I am experienced with bait casters and am open to all options, however i do need to buy it new. Thanks! Brian Quote
Super User Darren. Posted November 14, 2013 Super User Posted November 14, 2013 Daiwa Lexa, though you can get them now closer to the $99 mark. I don't have experience with some of the others that will be recommended (Abu, Lews, etc.), but Daiwa is really hitting a sweet spot with some very good quality reels in the Exceler, Lexa, and Tatula lineup. Arv Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Search for a Lews Tournament. You should be able to find one new around 120 if you look. Heck, you might be able to find a Tournament Pro for that price if you're lucky. Quote
MacP Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Until 150 bucks, I think Bass Pro's Pro Qualifier and Lew's Speed Spools are hard to beat. 1 Quote
5dollarsplash Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Check your local gander mountain if you can. I was in mine the other day and got a new Citica 200e for <$70. I would recommend this reel anyway, but at that price I bought a back up. The lexa's are very nice reels as well, and I wouldn't hesitate to use one of those. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 14, 2013 Super User Posted November 14, 2013 Daiwa Lexa, though you can get them now closer to the $99 mark. Why is that? Recently been to a bps catalog outlet and they had like 40 of those marked at $99 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted November 14, 2013 Super User Posted November 14, 2013 That is curious. I wonder if the Exceler is taking its place (the 100 series) Or a new version is coming out. Read elsewhere speculation as to why Daiwa has those three (Tat being third) so close in price range. No answers given, but quite curious. Quote
Brian Needham Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Lews TP..... I got all mine for under $130. and to tell you the truth do not pass up lightly used or even refurbs. The reason I say this is you can save a hunk of money. and two by the time you send it off to get cleaned/supertuned you still have saved money over new and have a reel that performs BETTER than new. 1 Quote
cbass12 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 x2 on checking out Gander Mountain, if you have one near you. They had shimano curado's on sale for $129 at the store in wichita last week. Quote
Grantman83 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Lews Tournament no doubt. I was also wondering about the lexa series being that they have the exceler and tatula all within 40 bucks of each other. Doesn't make a ton of sense to me Quote
Bass all day Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I would go with the lews tournament mg, 129$ Quote
Trey Harpel Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 you can find some new Daiwa taulas for that price range and that reel will smoke other reels mentioned.. Just have to search Auction or wait for the Black friday sales.. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Lew's Tournament for less, or Tournament Pro for about that price, both best thing available close to their price. Quote
