The 9th Annual BassResource RoadTrip

On Wilson Lake Alabama!

April 30th - May 5th

This year's trip will be bigger and better than ever! This is a tremendous smallmouth fishery with some great largemouth and spotted bass fishing to boot. However, this trip isn't strictly about catching bass. It's more about friends getting together and having a great time, good food and meeting new people....with some fishing thrown in for good measure. Wilson Lake is the "place to be" in spring!
Meet the BassResource staff as well as everyone on the boards in-person. And of course, everyone will be up to their fun antics!
For those who haven't been and might be uncertain if you'll fit in....don't worry, you will, we'll make sure of it! :)

Check out last year's highlight video!

You are responsible for your room reservation

We will be staying at the The Doublehead Resort. Call 1-800-685-9267 to make reservations. You MUST mention you are with the Bass Resource group in order to get the group discount. You do not have to book it for the entire week, you can go longer or shorter. Just understand we cannot guarantee availability if you want to stay outside the event dates.

You must make your reservation by Feb. 28th. Room availability cannot be guaranteed after March 1st. Note that a $120 deposit is required. If you need any help with your room reservation, send a PM to Alpster with a phone number where you can be reached.

The cabins comfortably sleep 4-8 persons.  Assuming 4 people share a cabin, the rate per person per day would be $46.98, tax and cleaning charge included.

Each cabin is constructed with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams that reach to the second story loft. The first floor is designed with a master bedroom and full bath, along with a fully equipped kitchen and open great room with a wood burning fireplace and satellite TV plus Internet access. Also located on the first floor are a dinette and a washer and dryer. Upstairs you will find 2 additional bedrooms and another full bath. And of course, each cabin has its own private pier, hammock, picnic table, charcoal grill, and rocking chairs.

There are no RV or camping facilities on the grounds, although Joe Wheeler State Park is near-by.

The docks behind the cabins do not have electrical hook-ups so long power cords will be needed.  There are boat slips available that have electrical hook-ups, and are free of charge for cabin renters.

Registration Form

All attendees and their significant others are required to submit a completed and signed Registration Form.  Here is the link to the Form.

Fishing Licenses
An Alabama fishing license is all you'll need, regardless of the area you plan to fish on Wilson Lake, but even if you plan to fish Pickwick Lake, just minutes down river from where we're staying. Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee have reciprocal agreements for Pickwick lake. However, if you wish to fish the area below Pickwick Dam, a Tennessee license would be needed.

A non-resident 7-day Alabama fishing license $27.60. Here's where you can get your license (scroll down to the "links" section).

Common Questions
Who is invited?
Everyone!

How does fishing work during the trip? Are we all on our own, do members pair up? Share patterns? The lake is pretty big. Do we all launch at the same time in the morning as a group or everyone do their own thing?
To begin with, this is not a tournament. It's just a bunch of folks who enjoy the fishing and camaraderie. We will probably have a "biggest bass" contest, but there is no entry fee and is pretty much on the honor system. Everyone does their own thing when fishing. They launch when they want and where they want. As for pairings, every evening we do our best to pair everyone up for the next day. NO ONE is left standing on the bank.

How does lodging work, do we tell you if we require a room? Do we get paired up for rooms with other members?
It is the responsibility of each individual to arrange their own accommodations. We have blocked 10 cabins for BR members, but reservations must be made by you. The block will be removed March 1st, so unreserved cabins may not be available after that date.  Stay active on the Road Trip forum and post from time to time that you are looking for a roommate. It always works out.

What are the nightly activities, as I have seen videos of speakers in the past. When does that happen?
Almost every evening one or more of us will cook for the group. RW and Long Mike usually cook hamburgers. Alpster usually does some sort of cajun dish. We pass the hat and ask for a $5.00 contribution from each member to help defray our costs. On one of the evenings (yet to be determined) we will have our "banquet." This is when we have our speaker(s.) Dinner is on you that night.

Do i need to bring a boat?

NO, you do not need a boat.  Everyone is welcome, and everyone fishes!  We hold random drawings (see schedule above) to pair boaters/non-boaters up.

Aaaaaa! Yes! Thanks, Glenn  :respect-059: This will be the first gathering of other anglers for me. It sounds like my version of heaven. Gonna move heaven and earth to be there!

One thing Glenn forgot to mention is that you shouldn't have to pay for the entire cost of the cabin by yourself. Use this thread to buddy up with some people and split the cost. This is how lifetime friends are made on this trip. I can't wait to see everyone there.

Probably not, but we will have several couples that you might feel more comfortable

staying with. If you have already visited the website you saw that the accomodations

are cottages, seperate bedrooms and lots of space.

The Roadtrip isn't like a fishing or hunting camp with a bunch of rednecks. It's much closer

to a family reunion. I believe we had four women (wives) there last year. If you want some

reference from a female perspective, send a PM to Keri.

I hope I can make this one too.  Wife is in school so I will have to see what happens. It would be the 4th trip and on a lake I would really like to fish.

Kyak,  Last year my wife went with me.

Nice video Glenn.

Been waiting for this info as well. Will start working at my schedule, it's a very busy time for us. If we can't make it for the whole week maybe 3 or 4 days. I fished Wilson for half a day many years ago. It was cold and I didn't know the lake. The fella I was with was a local and a customer of mine but his heart wasn't in it because of the weather, 0 fish caught. I liked the look of the lake and really want to give it another shot. Thanks to all those responsible for offering this opportunity to the membership!

I would say I don't want to brag about being on the "cover" of the video but I don't want to LIE either!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

seriously, It is a great time, and everyone needs to try to attend, it's a total blast!

everyone is great and willing to help. hell, I'm even likable in person !

no worries about this being your 1st trip or your 9th, boat or no boat, come have fun, fish, make life long friends.

and for those wanting to come but think you don't know "enough", no sweat either, I can honestly say I learned more about fishing in that one week and the entire year I read message boards, IT'S THAT GOOD FOLKS.

To talk to others, from other parts of the country, to see how others fish, baits, style, ect. ect, you can not help but to learn something and walk away with new friends.

PLUS if you get to fish with Glenn he WILL school you on the senko!(weather permitting)

Hope to see ya'll there.

My wife is in school too, but I know I won't be able to go if she doesn't get to go too.

I hope to make it again this year......last year was great!

But got some job security issues going on after having the bank purchased/merger/acquisition. No idea after 11 weeks if they will be extending offers of employment to us or not. Actually they have not told us anything at all, really , except that the merger will be finalized and conversion completed around Aprilish........just have to see.

If you get the chance to go......you should...it is a great time!

As I'm watching the video and chuckling my wife looks over and says must be "fish porn" I reply yes and also a glimpse of my first fishing vacation coming up haha....just realized that's my birthday weekend too! Happy bday to me!

Ok......well I can't stand it. I watched last year's video too. We are in.

Got da fever!

This REALLY sounds fun! I'll be making plans now. So, boat space hasn't been an issue on past trips? As a float-tuber who doesn't own a boat, I feel a little funny imposing on other people's rigs..

Posted

hell, I'm even likable in person !

It's true. I must admit that I was skeptical..........but he is right. He is likable in person.

I can't speak for everyone else......but I did not meet anyone there that I did not find friendly and enjoyable to be around.

And I fit his description in I don't know much.........hope everyone makes it back this year and a bunch more show up too.

A great time.

Gunner, don't worry about not having a boat.  There are always enough boat seats to go around.  NO ONE will be left standing on the bank, or in a float tube.
