WiregrassRiverRat Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 So I have been working to help a certain company get their foot in the door of my local bait and tackle. I was asked by one of their marketing directors/part owner to do so and that if I got them in the store.. every order that store made I would get 5% in tackle at cost... After getting them in the door.. and talking with the marketing guy, he sent me a field tester agreement form with a 2 page contract and said he would like to have me on board.. etc etc.. we spoke on the phone at length and discussed on facebook what the terms would be etc.. I sent him the agreement signed and he replied.. awesome I will have this signed and returned to you after a meeting the next day.. well that was oct 31.. meaning the meeting was Nov 1... I have called the guy 3 times since then with no answer, and sent another email today.. What should I do? Do I need to call the company and asked to speak with someone regarding this.. or continue to try and speak through this marketing director/ part owner...?? I am somewhat new to the idea of sponsorship or being a field tester etc and dont know what to do... any advice? Quote

How much longer would you continue to get in contact with him.. its been 11 days.. he was supposed to be sending me a t-shirt and some soft plastics that never came either.. he spoke as if this was a done deal and communicated often.. and now nothing Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 12, 2013 Super User Posted November 12, 2013 Running a business is not easy and while I have no doubt you were a help to him in setting up his product line in the store I can bet that getting product out to you is not a top priority with the Christmas season on the horizon. Maybe give him a call and leave a voice mail or an email asking for a timeframe or setting up some time to talk. Good luck and hopefully it all works out for you in the end Quote

The mailing departments are not always in sync, probably a remote possibility as this company most likely is small. You have no contract until you have a signed copy by both parties in your possession. Not saying that this is the situation, but this person just may be cutting you out, happens all the time business can be cutthroat. I'd be looking at what 5% means of a product line in 1 store and what potential you may have to develop other outlets for the company. Over 40 years worth business experience and more common today as people have instant communication with them at all times via computers and smart phones, when someone doesn't respond to a phone call or email it's because they don't want to. No one is that busy they can't take a few seconds to respond, if only to say I'll call you next week or something like that. You have made 4 attempts 3 by phone and 1 by email, based on this track record it doesn't sound like they are very serious. Quote

If not and you have a good record with them than I would remind him that you helped get him to that store and you can help take it away. That is my cutthroat business advice from a business student. That being said it might be better to just go on your way and forget about it. People will be jerks in life but they can only continue to be jerks if you keep letting them get to you! It could be that they are sorting through 1,000 emails per day of people wanting to get sponsored. Quote
