For this guy. This is while being winched out. Truck and trailor were all the way under another 20' back. Divers hooked up a cable and tow truck winched it out.

Aparantly he forgot to put it in park :o

Ive seen that happen at a lake close to me. The guy put his truck in park and when he got out the truck and boat slid off into the water.

The ramp was really slick with algae.

I hope he has good insurance.

Coulda been worse.  Do that in salt water, and you may as well take everything to the junk yard.

It totally destroys the electrical systems.

As I have written before, one of the fun things you can do on a weekend is to take a lawn chair, cooler, lunch, snacks and drinks and sit by a ramp and watch the launching and trailering of the boats.

You will be amazed at what you see and hear.

So true!! We did this sometimes after a day of fishing on the coast at one of the marinas. Sit back have some drinks and watch the show at ramp.

was at a ramp one time and there were 3 guys in the water holding this ski boat straight so they could get it on the trailer. They were a little ticked when we drove right by and had the boat loaded and ready to go before they could get off the ramp LOL

Did he only pop the emergency brake or was he completely foolish and not notice the vehicle movement as he took his foot off the pedal to get out? I know getting excited to hit the water happens, but this may be a bit...overboard.

This is one reason I will stop and fish by a ramp if its real busy.

You spend enough time around a luanch ramp, you will see accidents. Holidays are very busy and the more folks trying to luanch boats, the more often strange things occur. It's entertaining and can be tragic.

Backing vehicles into the water until they float and sink, isn't that uncommon. One of the most bizzar things I watched was a family back down the boat and with the boat filled with family, get out and unhitched the trailer, start up the motor with the boat tied to the trailer and try to get the boat up on plane. You make this stuff up it's so strange.

The most tragic event was a guy who filled his gas tank, while on the water after luanching, spilling gasoline and over flowing into the bilge, then tried to start his engine and the boat exploded into flames. Everyone jumped overboard, the boat burned to water line and sunk. All we could do was rescue the passengers; dad, mom and 3 kids.

The fights, the jacked knifed rigs, running boats so fast on the trailer it ends up on top of the car and forgetting to untie the boat and of course the drain plugs missing with boats returning filled with water. the boats slipping off the trailers, lower until being smashed, amazing to watch.

I grew up on Lake Norman and just across the cove (maybe 100 yards) was a public (redneck) ramp.  The ramp was concrete but everything else was red clay.  Every weekend there was a truck in water or a boat off the trailer on the concrete or Barney Fife breaking up a fight or nearly naked women or, or, or.  It was absolutely the most entertaining acre of property I have ever seen.

Yikes! I've dreamed of owning a boat in addition to my kayak someday, but this thread is a good shot of reality. When I put my yak in at a ramp I'm usually very careful no boats need to come in or launch........it takes about 5 or 10 minutes for me to hook up my battery, fishfinder, TM etc. Some boaters get impatient on busy days and consider a kayak an intrusion. Kinda like motorists view a motorcycle. Some almost run over me even though I'm always off to the side and not on the ramp itself. I hope that guy had an understanding friend to help him get his boat home....... :trans7:

Ouch! They do it here from time time too. Lol

I hate putting in when someone's watching. I'm no pro for sure and if I get in a hurry trying to get out of others way I'm all over the place. Lol.

Learned a lot watching others though. Mostly things not to. Like one guy putting the motor down while the other backed him down the ramp. Not once but three times he put the prop in the cement before the boat could float up off the trailer. After getting a cursing from the owner he just left it up. Then the owner gets in and starts it prop still out of the water. I thought I was gonna get the next cursing I couldn't help but LOL!

Best guy thought me how to do it alone. He backed down to the water. Tossed his rope from the boat over the wench handle. Backed into the water, taped the brakes, boat slide off trailer and out in the water, hit the end of the rope. Then he pulled up about a ft. Rope stretched and pulled boat back straight bumping the end roller ever so gently but quickly. He jumped back out rapped the rope around a rock and drove off. Boat sit there about ten ft off the ramp pretty as picture. Took no more then three mins from start to gone. And still the best I've seen.

Doesn't make me feel so bad that it takes me 5 or 6 tries to get straight on the ramp, never mind that I usually take my half right out of the middle :Victory:

LOL me to!

You made me think of something I done one time. Just bought a 14ft Hydra Sport boat from a guy and took it to the water to try. Pulled up and got straight with the ramp but as I backed it over the sharp top of the ramp I lost site of the boat out my jacked up broncos rear window and all mirrors. As the trailer hit the ramp the boat was so light it bounced on the groves and jackknifed. Lucky I couldn't find the sucker and got nervous. So I got out for quick peek as I neared the tailgate I kept thinking where the heck did the boat go. ( I kept looking back at the water and thinking heck it would have floated the trailer had it came loose!)

Finally found it on the right side full 90% angle the tires an inch from a two ft drop off of the edge. One more inch and it wouldn't have been pretty. Took four more try's before I slowed down enough to stop the bounce.

Then I was smack dab in the middle of a two lane ramp. Lucky it was an off day and no one needed the ramp or seen my antics.

I'm buying a Ranger next time. Heard they where the heaviest. Lol

LOL, my troubles are more with loading.  When we launch I usually have hubby set me up on the ramp and then I just back him down.  When its time to go home its all up to me to get the trailer on the ramp straight.  Its gotten better since he installed the reverse camera.  When the ramp is crowded is when I have the most trouble, go figure!

Sounds quick, I've seen boaters take 2 to 3 times as long launching. I swear I seen a guy answer his phone in the middle of a launch and take aa extra 15 minutes :eh:. I ran into a guy who took forever leaving, I burned through a 1/4 tank of gas driving around waiting for this guy. I've even seen a kayak couple arguing at the ramp loading up their yak (or lack loading)
