Reptile360 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Just started pitching. Besides jigs, what are some good baits to pitch? My pitching setup: Falcon Bucoo Micro Pitchin' Stik Abu Garcia Pro Max 7.1:1 Quote
ChrisAW Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 You can pitch any baits you want. Its just a cast technique used to present a bait more silently than an overhand cast. When I'm near cover, I will pitch whatever I'm using just to make a silent entry. Spinner baits, top waters, squarebills, dropshot... anything you want. But in general, yes. Jigs, texas rigs using beaver baits, craws, or worms.. Those are the norm. Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 10, 2013 Super User Posted November 10, 2013 Really depends on how thick or heavy and type of cover is you fish. Extremely heavy cover a punch rig works good. Lighter cover a pegged T- rig works OK. The difference is the weight, the punch rig is heavier and incorporate a skirt. Go online, there are lots of stuff to look at. Tom Quote
Reptile360 Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 What line size do you guys recommend? I'm using 15lb mono. Quote
james 14 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 That depends on what type of fishing you're doing. As WRB it's just a casting technique. I prefer braid with everything and use a leader if I need flouro or mono for any specific scenario. I actually prefer to use as short a rod as possible. With moving baits that don't require a hard hookset I'll go as short as 6ft. I try not to go longer than 7 and will use that for baits like a fluke or worm that require some hooksetting power. This is less important if I'm pitching to something like a grassline as opposed to a dock and I'll actually stick with the longer 7.5-8ft hvy rod for the grassline or mat punching scenario. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 light to medium weeds and wood 15 lb mono works. I like to use floro for flipping usually 15-20 lb depending on the cover. I use braid for heavier cover sometimes, but you can use 20 lb mono or floro for these applications too. Mitch Quote
jignfule Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 If you pitch, especially heavy mats, read up on "punch skirts". They were very successful for me last season. Quote
Lip 'em! Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 You can even pitch spinnerbaits with lots of success... Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted November 12, 2013 Super User Posted November 12, 2013 My favorites are flukes, tubes, and baby brush hogs. I tend to stay away from the larger plastic worms. Sometimes the tail will wrap around something when you pitch it. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 12, 2013 Super User Posted November 12, 2013 Learn how to pitch every bait in your tackle box, and on every rod - including your spinning gear. A pitch cast is one the most useful tools to have in your arsenal. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 12, 2013 Super User Posted November 12, 2013 You can even pitch spinnerbaits with lots of success... No dude that don't work! Especially letting it helicopter down next to timber\brush! Quote

Reptile360 Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Sweet Beaver I used to be a Slipknot fan, but I really don't like their newer music. Third album, and everything since disappointed me. The first album is raw! Tool & Mudvayne are my favorite bands. Quote
Reptile360 Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 I'm going to pitch some different baits next time. You guys are awesome. Thanks. Quote

joeyfishes Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I used to be a Slipknot fan, but I really don't like their newer music. Third album, and everything since disappointed me. The first album is raw! Tool & Mudvayne are my favorite bands. Vol. 3 and All Hope is Gone are some of the best written albums I have ever listened to. I listen to both those albums every day. On All Hope is Gone, Gematria is the best written song I have ever heard. It's a shame they don't play it live. I like Tool too Quote
