With water temps in the 40's and cold nights, it will not be long before the water turns to ice up here. A sad time. Hope to launch a time or two more before winter sets in. How close do you guys cut it?

I launch until the water is too hard for my boat to float. Last 2 years I have been out the first week of December and water in my area is usually hard by Dec 10-15 . My home lake has a couple of houses with webcams so I watch those before driving up. I watch those instead of TV in the spring, with bated breath, waiting for ice-out. i think I will have 2 more trips out this year...Nov 17th and Dec 1st.

Sorry about your back. I keep telling myself to take the kayak out but end up shore fishing with my dog. I will shore fish until it ices up (looks soon  :cry4: ) All of us love fishing so much it leaves a big void in our lives. Thank God for this site!

Fished Friday and Saturday in 24* weather and dropped the boat off at the dealer Monday for winterization and warranty work.

Winterized my boat 2 weekends ago.  I didn't see any chances of me getting out again this year so I got it out of the way. Ice is forming thin on smaller water bodies here already.  :(

While I'm sad to pack in my normal gear for the year, I'm excited about my first season of ice fishing. I have never done it before. Just picked up my first setup and a few lures to try out once the lakes freeze over. Almost time to see what it's all about. Anyone else planning on dropping a line through the ice this year?

I wait until the lakes are frozen to winterize my boat. The last 2 years have been mild here and I fished all winter. I change the lower unit oil and plugs and keep going. I haven't fogged my engine in 2 years. I just jinxed myself didn't I? Crap! I hate shoveling snow.
