Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Baby stuff is freaking expensive! We tossed a bunch of our old stuff when we moved. What wasn't tossed I gave to my old 19yr old helper, to help him out. Well now that we have learned my wife is pregnant again. Yay us! I get to start purchasing baby paraphanelia again. I never in all my life new there was rich people baby stuff and poor people baby stuff. 1400 dollars for a freaking stroller!!! A dang stroller! Heck even the poor people baby gear is expensive. 200 bucks for a car seat and stroller! We have settled on 300 bucks for a German Bassinet/Stroller/toddler stroller/ basinet stand/carseat. Granted that package probably saves me a bucoo of money since I wouldn't have to buy everything separately. I'm just scratching the surface on baby gear with this. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Yeah there are a ton of things that i wonder why. the exception being the car seat because that is the only safety they have in an accident. I know my fiancé was all about getting crap and even after my prodding that it all wasn't needed I stopped fighting the battle and let her do her thing. The result is a bunch of stuff in our attic that still has the tags on it Oh and congrats!! Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 The only baby gear we buy now are condoms. So cheap but so worth it. 5 Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Yep. We bought our son and daughter-in-law two changing tables and cribs and it was over $1,000. Strollers are out of sight. We now shop baby consignment shops and have been known to stop along the road to pick up toys that are being thrown away. 1 Quote

Its some kinda designer table thing I found on sale for a tenth of the new price. The wood had a teeny ding in it. I took a needle to the spot. Stuck a damp rag and iron on it. You can't even tell where it was now. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 10, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 10, 2013 Wow, and I thought we were spending a bunch of money buying a $200 jogging stroller Honestly I'm more concerned about all the money I know my wife is going to spend on all the outfits for him Quote

I guess you're not French. You'd know how to spell beaucoup, meaning a lot, or many. A guy who worked with me had six kids. That stopped when he found out where they were coming from. He fired the milkman. That's his story, not mine. 1 Quote

Super User Redlinerobert Posted November 10, 2013 Super User Posted November 10, 2013 This is but one of the reasons we will not have kids. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 The stroller my in-laws bought for our twins was $850 after all the necessities and crap you have to buy with it to accommodate 2. Cribs were $300 each which one looks like a beaver had a field day with it now. I can't even imagine how much money in diapers at this point. Still have a year to two to go before potty trained. Super User Bankbeater Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 It was the diapers that got me too. I told my wife to buy whatever the babies needed, but I don't want to know about it. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 11, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 11, 2013 Freaking diapers are expensive as all get out. I told her to get cloth diapers. She said I would be the one washing them. So we went with single use. Formula was another wallet killer. Hopefully we don't have to go that route this time. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 Formula will kill you for sure. One way to help yourself out is to become friends with someone who works in a pediatrician's office, they get free samples all the time. The other thing to do is to join up on the formula of your choice's website with as many email addresses as you own. They send out coupons all the time and using those in combination with the ones from Costco or BJ's you can score some good deals. We were lucky in that we only needed formula for a month or two at which point i said screw this he is getting whole milk. He had been eating regular yogurt for a while so i wasn't worried but he also was on milk straight from the tap till he was about 10 months old. Same thing applies for diapers with regards to coupons and junk.... Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 11, 2013 Author Super User Posted November 11, 2013 Best solution to spending money on formula is to breastfeed. Yup. Thats the current route we are planning on going. Couldn't do it last time because of the meds she was taking at the time. Quote

They also had group coupon cuttings and other meet ups. I bwlieve at one point there were 100+ moms involved. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted November 12, 2013 Super User Posted November 12, 2013 MAN tell me about it babies are expensive lol.
