jignfule Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Ive never used the bps, but I own a president and it's been a good real for the money. Quote
Super User Marty Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 I also own a President and have been pleased with it. The thing that jumps off the page at me is that the BPS has considerably more recovery in inches per turn, suggesting an oversize spool. That extra recovery per turn might be important to some people, possibly in either a negative or positive way. Quote
Chris Wilson Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 I would like to purchase a spinning rod and reel. My rod purchase will be 40$ or under, my reel purchase of 60$ and under. Any other recommendations? I'll be running 6lb max on it. Quote
Chris Wilson Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Basically these are the ones i've found, but feel free to pitch ideas in. I'm doing away with the BPS due to reviews and not being able to find any more info out. -Abu Cardinal STX10 -Abu Orra S10 -Pflueger President 6925X Quote
fishguy613 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 pflueger president reel on a fenwick eagle gt, pretty decent setup for $100. If you want to spend less, get a Shakespeare ugly stik they are known for their strength, durability and low cost ($30ish) Quote
Boomer_bassin Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 President all the way, love mine! Quote
TrippyJai Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 The President is an amazing reel for $60. I had mine for 3 seasons until I sold it, 2 years later the same guy resold the reel at a higher price than I sold to him. Quote
Arv Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I like the pflueger spinning reels. I think the president would be a good choice. As you mentioned, the Abu Cardinal is another good choice. Quote

If you want to spend less, get a Shakespeare ugly stik they are known for their strength, durability and low cost ($30ish) That Eagle GT is awesome but I wouldn't suggest the ugly stick when the lightning rod is the same price. You won't get the same durability as with the ugly stick, but since what gives the ugly stick it's durability is the fiberglass that it's made of, that's also a disadvantage. The lightning rod will give you more sensitivity and a faster action since it's a graphite blank. Quote
pbizzle Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 If price is a really big issue I would look at the Pflueger President combo. It's $70, but you're getting the President and a decent rod that you can upgrade later. Quote
The Rooster Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Not sure if it matters or not. The BPS reel has an aluminum frame. The President does not. That said, I like the President better. Quote
Super User MCS Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Another president owner here, great reels for the money. I actually 3 different pflueger reels Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 I like Pflueger reels and the president gets good marks but I would go with the BPS extreme just because it has an aluminum body and side plate. I will never buy a graphite body or framed reel as I had one go bad and I saw my buddy with a graphite casting reel, set the hook on a dead fall and it flexed the body so much the gears came out od alignment and sounded and felt like a coffee grinder for the next hour until it finally quit. Stay with the aluminum. Quote
Mike2841 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I would look at the new ugly stick that came out, and if you don't like the reel that comes with it the abu cardinal is a solid reel for a great price. Quote
Super User CWB Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Don't know about the Extreme, but I bought a PQ with the wide spool and love it. Got the high speed model. Smooth drag, casts far and silky smooth retreive. Got it for $60.00 on sale. Be worth a look. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 I'M A PFLUEGER FAN but I would go for the extreme.the reason is I will never again buy a reel with a graphite frame.i've had the necks twist and break from a hard pulling bass in the weeds.either that or get a pflueger with an all metal frame. hoosierbass07 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I love spinning reels and want to buy another one to add to my two Shimano reels. I love how the Pflueger spinning reels look. They have a nice eye catching look to them. I do need a new reel devoted to six pound line (mono or fluoro or braid) for bass. The President would be a good choice? I don't have any experience with Pflueger reels. Quote

Depends on price, the president is a work horse and a steal at 50 bucks, but like other manufacturers there are more expensive offerings from pflueger. I have a president and President XT(which was replaced by the purist) and the XT is better and I like it more. I would step it up a notch or two and go with the purist or better if you can swing the cash. Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I've had a president for probably 8 years and it's still going strong. Can't deny a solid performer like that. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 The President is a great bang for the buck. Quote
craww Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 President is no slouch, but the orra is the best sub $100 spinner you'll find IMO. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 I have had a president for two years and love it. Quote
