NEjitterbugger Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Indoor Lacrosse? I thought that was girl's Lacrosse. Real guys play Lacrosse in New England in the snow, ice, wind, frost and freezing rain and hail. Like UConn plays football. If you want to improve your basketball skills ask your parents for the Pete Maravich Homework Basketball DVDs and do what Pete says. After all, Pistol Pete was the best, and still is the best, college basketball player in the history of the game. Doubt me? Watch his antics on YouTube and if you can play like Pete you will get a basketball scholarship to a big time school. Just kidding about the Lacrosse. But serious about the Pete Maravich DVDs. Good luck with both sports and remember to hit someone over the head in Lacrosse and grab the opponents pants by the end of their pants leg when going for a rebound and dare him to jump for the ball. Our lacrosse team only graduated one senior last year and he was on our 3 line so hopefully we have a pretty good season... 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 I hope to go to a power plant lake at least once and fish! Sooner, when you fish a hot water lake in the winter you be freezing your fanny off and see the steam rising from the water's surface. You stick your hand in the water and realize it is warmer than the air temperature. Can blow your mind. And the fish can be warm as you unhook them. I suggest fishing a warm water lake. It is a lot of fun. Bring a camera and the Kodak moments are fantastic. 1 Quote

I love watching me some Pistol Pete. He was far ahead of his time. the old school drills help out a ton and I attribute them to my improvement in basketball as well. Another great drill to learn is the Mikan drill. Google it and don't think it is only for big men either. You will learn to use both sides of the rim and both hands to score when near the rim which is huge. I was able to pretty much shoot with the same success from about 8ft in with both hands. Makes it very tough on the defender. And for the rebounding tip you don't need to grab the shorts much just enough to throw them off and think about it next time Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Our basketball program in our town has been having us do the Mikan drill since 7th grade... Awesome. We used to do it and have to see how high up we can hit the backboard on each jump too. The key to rebounding is always how quickly you can jump consecutive times, well that and positioning. I attribute this drill to helping me be able to dunk with one step, even being a 5'11 white guy Now you make me want to go shoot around.....guess that is what i will be doing later on today Quote

If I continue to work out a grow a couple of inches I may be able to... 1 Quote

Plyometrics are your friend I can almost guarantee that if you stick to a ploy routine in the offseason you can increase your vertical leap by 4-6". I didn't even do them because i have been blessed with the ability to jump but i had friends do it and they saw great increases. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 10, 2013 Super User Posted November 10, 2013 I'll spend this 'off season' skiing, working, finishing my Master's Degree, and reading this forum. 1 Quote

ChrisAW Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I will be pouring plastics, designing baits, hopefully get started with my own Jigs as well. Other than that, working. Waiting for opening day to take vacation time and go to St Clair. Quote

boostr Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Clean my gear, and buy more tackle and maybe another rod. Scream at the tv when my sports team plays and sucks. Quote
wnybassman Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Scream at the tv when my sports team plays and sucks. After reading that I thought you might live closer to Buffalo. lol Quote

mnbassman23 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Chase around deer and pheasants until the end of the year. Pull out the AR-15 and mow down some yotes this winter. Clean and organize my gear and then reorganize a few more times. Eventually I'll get desperate and go ice fish for a day or two just to feel something tug on a line. Work as much OT as possible so when I'm on my 4th TW order for the winter I don't feel to bad about it... 1 Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 I dabbled in ice fishing the last two years but didn't have fun doing it. Namely because I don't know what the heck I am doing. I plan to put my own jigs together but that won't last all winter. I always struggle this time of year. I am hoping to be inspired by someone else on this thread. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 I'll fish for a couple more weeks yet providing the weather is not miserable. I enjoy the break for a while after I put the boat away. I don't go too stir crazy until after the holidays. But usually by then we have safe ice, so that keeps me occupied for a while. Work is slow on the farm in the winter, but usually we don't go more than a week-10 days without some kind of mutli-day job to do......that is all dependent on weather as well. The time that really bugs me is the period waiting for the ice to melt. Usually it's too wet to work, the ice is unsafe and/or no open water for boating yet. Makes for some pretty long boring days. S_Miketa6 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I'll go duck hunting as much as I can and wish I was out on the lake fishing the whole time... Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 Do some honey do's around the house, get the reels cleaned, sharpen all of the hooks. I hate having a big project come along when the weather warms up. Quote
KyakR Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 For now, whine about not knowing when the Roadtrip is and whine about my back being out......for later, obsess on Roadtrip, practice casting, go to gym more and learn how to put a reel back together properly after cleaning it Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 13, 2013 Super User Posted November 13, 2013 I make troutsicles all winter long. 2 Quote
tholmes Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Enjoy the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons with my wife and grandkids. Fish when I can, clean and organize my tackle boxes, clean, lube and re-spool my reels, make jigs and blade baits, restock on soft plastics, etc. Spend a lot of time playing guitar. Watch lots of sports on TV, especially Chiefs football and Jayhawks basketball. Tom Quote

Super User J Francho Posted November 14, 2013 Super User Posted November 14, 2013 At less than 5'8", in person I doubt I resemble him in person, though I do also play drums and guitar, lol. 1 Quote
