WhiteMike1018 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 What are some of the things youll do to keep you busy this winter? It dosen't have to be fishing related. I know ill be preparing my tackle for the upcoming season but I will also be in the gym building strength and trying to put on some muscle. And ill be trying to make as much money as possible! So when spring comes I have money for fun fun fun. How about you guys? Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 8, 2013 Super User Posted November 8, 2013 I like to kill stuff for a couple months. 3 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted November 8, 2013 Super User Posted November 8, 2013 I'll clean all my reels. Hopefully upgrading my electronic on the console to a HB HDSI unit. Reorganize tackle 14 times. tick off my fiancee talking about fishing and hogging DVR space with fishing shows that I've watched 3 times each already. Changing poopy diapers. Develop a rash from not fishing for 6 months. More diapers. Talking with you fine folks. Is is Spring yet? 2 Quote
papajoe222 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I like to keep my off season filled with fishing related activities. I'll start with cleaning, organizing, updating my gear. Next it's tinkering time. Bearing and drag washer upgrades, switching blades on spinnerbaits or hooks on cranks etc. and different lure modifications I'd been wanting to try, but was too busy fishing to do. Then it's time to work on building a new rod or two, or at the very least, adding a decorative thread wrap to the butt of one of my rods. Now it's time to plan the two fishing vacations I'll be taking next season. One is a yearly treck to N.W. Wisconson and that's just a matter of determining what dates and which lake I plan to visit. The other could be anywhere and between research and coordinating vacation time with my buddies, figuring out who will be driving and which boats we'll be taking and actually making reservations, the process can take a few weeks. Plus, there's all that communication between us that gets me pumped. Next to last is catching up on fishing related reading. I hold out on this until a few weeks before opening as it really gets me pumped. Last is getting the boat prepared. With a newer boat it won't take long, but in years past, some of the projects have been lengthy. Then, it's sit and wait for opening day and hopefully I'm not to this point until after New Years! :mouse-28493: I forgot to mention, I also spend a lot of time on forums like this attempting to learn something new, or relearn something I've forgotten. camman Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Fishing....1 of the few positive points about living in California Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Jan 15- about March 15 are my hardest times. No hunting seasons really and the lakes that are close usually freeze over or at least at the ramps. I do schedule a trout trip at this time to help break up the boredom. 1 Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 8, 2013 Super User Posted November 8, 2013 I watch my guides freeze when I reel in, aka I don't stop fishing 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 8, 2013 Super User Posted November 8, 2013 Will go through all tackle and reorganize. Look at all of the magazines I have collected during the year and tear out the interesting articles for my library. Make an inventory of the tackle I will need to replace for next year and wait for the sales. Make sure the boat is winterized and ready for next season. And on a warm day I will try to hit a local pond. Quote
jignfule Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I have a spot on my wall, I stare at it and rehearse nursery rymes, while I rock in my chair. 3 Quote
KritterGitter Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 In between fixing up and working on stuff around the house (I neglected because I went fishing instead!!) Ill do some hunting and some pickerel fishing. I have yet to see frozen water since I moved here 4 years ago. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Well I read, watch videos, all about bass fishing to refresh and keep my edge sharp. I been gathering my ice fishing tackle up too. I have my tackle room to clean up. I need to clean and lube my used reels. I'm in the middle of remodeling the new place too. I have one room done. 1 Quote
Todd2 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I still get out. I literally broke through thin ice last year to catch a few. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 I like to kill stuff for a couple months. no catch and release in the winter for you? Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Normally I chase trout in the mountain streams or spring creeks and bass too as long as the water is still soft. This year will be a little different as I will be focusing on my classes and do some road cycling to break up the boredom. Quote
BigBassBarry Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I hope to go to a power plant lake at least once and fish! Quote
Insanity Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Thank goodness for the white bass bite during the miscible months here. Cabin fever is something I don't want to catch I try to stay away from northerners in fear of catching it. . Hard water sucks I here. If I'm not killing things things like others. I'd practice pitching at a bucket of water in the garage if nothing else. Looks like we have plenty of work coming up this winter. Sure hope I can make some extra cash as well. Man I need so much stuff before spring. Had tackle boxes and best rod/reels stolen out my camper a couple years back and I still ain't got enough stuff built up to really enjoy it like I used to. Every time I go all I can think of is man I wish I had this bait or that one back. I'm sure they'd hit it rite now. Thank goodness white bass fishing only requires cheap curly tails. Quote
travis23 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Well other than saving for some trips for next year, I'll be changing diapers and hopefully enjoying some good food through the holidays!! Quote
SudburyBasser Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Normally over the winter I go over my gear and clean/repair anything that needs it... except I was bored two weeks ago so I did most of it then. Go slowly mad... read fishing magazines... go slowly mad. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 9, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 9, 2013 2 power plant lakes within an hour of the house=I never stop fishing 1 Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Look at all of the magazines I have collected during the year and tear out the interesting articles for my library. I have been wanting to do this for a while now Sam, any pointers with regards to organization? As for the thread. I will fish until right after Christmas and then take a tackle Inventory and re-stock. Clean/lube all my reels, practice casing , hangout here, and then mid February start fishing. Quote
tgm Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I'll walk down to the pond and try a few new baits I will buy with the$ I saved on heating oil.Get out while you can! Quote
aceman387 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I generally dig out all my "stretchy" sweat pants out of the dresser and then give them a thorough washing in preparation for the upcoming holiday eating binges.I will also install a fresh pack of batteries in each of the remotes i find lying around the house in preparation for the long winter football season. Other than that i put a fresh coat of leather cleaner on the recliner and wait till march until i start re-lubing my reels and resorting my tackle bags for new tackle inventory. Just joking with the top half,i love being outdoors all year. 1 Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Basketball, and indoor lacrosse... Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Basketball, and indoor lacrosse... Indoor Lacrosse? I thought that was girl's Lacrosse. Real guys play Lacrosse in New England in the snow, ice, wind, frost and freezing rain and hail. Like UConn plays football. If you want to improve your basketball skills ask your parents for the Pete Maravich Homework Basketball DVDs and do what Pete says. After all, Pistol Pete was the best, and still is the best, college basketball player in the history of the game. Doubt me? Watch his antics on YouTube and if you can play like Pete you will get a basketball scholarship to a big time school. Just kidding about the Lacrosse. But serious about the Pete Maravich DVDs. Good luck with both sports and remember to hit someone over the head in Lacrosse and grab the opponents pants by the end of their pants leg when going for a rebound and dare him to jump for the ball. 1 Quote
