craww Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Its my understanding its residents only to put in at the restaurant now. They closed the put in over by Genito. I'm fortunate to have a couple yards we carry our johnboats through. I honestly don't know what to tell you for public acess anymore, maybe talk to a brandermill resident about getting a pass through them. The fishing doesnt suck, if you look at the dgif website more citation LMB and pickerel come out of there than anywhere (at least when i checked a couple years ago), you just gotta be on the channel in the mainlake, and in the right shallow/back water areas at the right times. I have noticed that since the carp were released and the milfoil is gone the pike seem to have gradually disappeared. However the quanity of bass seems to have also decreased, but my buddy and I have caught a lot more solid 3-4lbrs. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 9, 2013 Super User Posted November 9, 2013 Craww, glad to hear the bass fishing has picked up. Quit fishing Swift Creek many years ago due to the grass and lack of nice bass. Quote
bigbass101 Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 well i live in the Glen allen/ short pump area and just got a knew jon boat with a trolling motor and all so let me no some places near by thats good? Quote
rennernc Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I am planning on going to swift creek this Friday. Are there any great spots to fish from shore? I am trying to rustle up a Jon boat or a canoe to take out there...but I might not be able to pull that off in time. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 8, 2014 Super User Posted May 8, 2014 No, not really. Too many homes on the lake that will block you from fishing in their back yards. There are some places you can try but I doubt you will do well. Quote
rennernc Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Is there anywhere within Richmond area that is great fishing without a boat?@SAM I live right by lake rooty in Innsbrook so that lake would not be preference. It is my birthday Friday so I need to catch some fish!!! Looking to stay within a half hourish of where I live. Quote
mdurrbeck Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 COne out to Powhatan just west of Richmond. We got some great places if you looking to do some fishing. Powhatan Lakes as well as Amelia wide life have nice lakes with quality fish. Some guys in our fishing group have scored multiple bass over 9 lbs at Amelia and Powhatan Lakes has Florida strain largemouth they stocked when they rebuilt it sometime back. message me if ya need directions to ethier of the above. Super User Sam Posted May 10, 2014 Super User Posted May 10, 2014 The best fishing without a boat would be the private ponds sprinklered around the greater Richmond area. You will have to ask about these private ponds at the local tackle shops. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 go ahead and take him to your double secret pond sam lol Quote
rennernc Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I appreciate the input. I ended up going out to lake anna, and caught 4 LMB between 2-3 pounds nothing special, and I caught one 3 pound striped bass. Had a good time, will probably go back out that way in a week or two. Still looking for something close by with some great shore, or boat fishing. Thanks for all of the input ya'll. I did get pretty lucky and talked to a gentleman who is going to take me out on his "secret" lake. Only a handful of people are allowed to fish out of the lake so i am looking forward to that coming soon. I ended up just renting a small jon boat out at lake anna. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 To fish Virginia waters without a boat you may consider joining a local bass club. You will learn a lot; fish out of many different boats; fish many bodies of water; and meet the Virginia bass fishing movers and shakers. Just a suggestion to consider. Quote
bigbass101 Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 You can fish wyndam they have a nice pond on the edge of a golf course and nieghborhood your aloud to fish it though it open to anyone that wants to go there they have nice bass in there i have caught solid 4 and 5 pound bass in there this passed week on a watermelon green senko worm Quote
Last Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 You can launch at Swift Creek on the N.Woolridge and Genito ramp. You can fish there too but its shallow. There are pretty good size bass there.....3weeks ago a guy on a jon boat caught a 7.5lb large. Quote
