Went to wally world today and saw those yellow skeet reese rods from a mile away and decided I'd check out how they feel.  Pulled a BC model down, gave it the look over and balance test.  I then tested the action of the rod by twitching it like you would when walking the dog.

CRACK!

I inspected rod and it was bent about 3-4 guides down.  I put that sucker back and quickly wrote the W&M skeet reese rod off my shortlist for flipping rods this holiday season.

You just left it for some other poor slob to purchase?  I'm certainly not saying you should take ownership for breaking it but...  I hope it was OBVIOUSLY broken so no one else does purchase it.

It most likely had been hit against something. You'd be surprised how rough some folks are with those rods.

If a rod takes a hard lick against the edge of say the display rack for example it can weaken it in that spot . You buy it get to the lake and hang a five pounder at the bank and snap. Been there done that. Took it back got another one and didn't have any more problems.

( not that brand rod)

I now look around and make sure no ones watching and I give it the ugly stick test. Lol

we'll not that far but I do check to make sure it bends pretty good before I buy it.

Yea I figured since I was at walmart, that the product had had a rough life up to that point of me picking it up.

and if someone doesn't look to make sure their rod is straight before buying it (it was obviously cockeyed) then I question whether or not they should be buying a rod.

On a side note...I saw the new Abu vendettas...very nice...I have the slightly older model now and I almost want to sell it to get the new one.

A rod in any retail environment has been handled countless times, and likely in ways that would make you cringe. Check them over carefully and if one sneaks past that's what warranty and store return policies are for.
