akg414 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 After watching the videos on Youtube, it's obvious these baits work well catching trophies. I've watched videos of 6# & 8# bass caught on them too - even on the east coast. Up here in the NE region (Pennsylvania for me), I know we have those sizes. And a lot of the info/videos indicate that these baits work well for colder seasons. So being that we're right in the beginning stages of cold weather, I was wanting to hear some success stories of anyone who might have caught any bass on any of these two baits (6" & 8" hudds)? Or other swim baits? Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 7, 2013 Super User Posted November 7, 2013 They absolutely work up here. I'm in Vermont and have had bass 2-4.8lbs eat 6" & 8" Hudds. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted November 7, 2013 Super User Posted November 7, 2013 How would they NOT work on our bass here? Quote

Super User Shane J Posted November 7, 2013 Super User Posted November 7, 2013 Yeah, 6" 68 Special Perch color Quote
mhtranger Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 How does one fish that thing? Is it just a slow retrieve or burn it back?? Looks like it might work pretty well on lakes that have trout. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 7, 2013 Super User Posted November 7, 2013 Hudds - cast out, and pretend it's a jig. Quote
akg414 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Although I haven't got bit (yet), I throw mine out and reel it in slowly raising the rod and then lowering the rod. I believe its called "Yo-Yo-ing". I DID however get bit using a Savage-Gear 3D Trout. It's 7" and sinks pretty fast. I hooked into (what would have been) THEE biggest bass of my career, no question. Got him right to the boat, reached down for the d**n net, dropped my rod tip and he threw it. I let out the obligatory "Nooooooooo!!!". Then I fell silent and just stood there until my heart rate settled back down. … So I know they work, LOL. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 7, 2013 Super User Posted November 7, 2013 It's a big misconception that swimbaits only work in california, since the craze started there. They work wherever a hungry bass is Quote

TC235 <*))))>< Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 As for hudds they defiantly work.. Even know there two different lures heres some pics of some dinks caught on the large MS Slammer caught on the first couple times chucking it. Really took the fear outta using these big baits. Don't matter where you live.. Only things that matters is finding the BOWs worth fishing big baits. If there's 4-5lbs+ bass in a puddle I'll throw a swimbait. 1 Quote

ChrisAW Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I would say yes, but the only luck I had with my Huddleston before its life was cut tragically short, was what I could only assume was a rather large Pike. First hour of use, I felt something freight train it, I barely hard to set the hook it tightened up so fast. And then.. dink! Line went limp. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 5, 2013 Super User Posted December 5, 2013 A couple of average size Northern Michigan bass that fell for a 68. A-Jay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk-JSYwbaz8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt_xIcuDnKc Quote
will83 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 The Hudd grass minnow is killer; it looks like it does absolutely nothing in the water but they work wonders around grass!!! Quote
Craiger12 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Looking into throwing some 6" Hudds this coming spring. For those of you who have experience fishing Hudds, how do you set the hook? Do you wait until the rod loads, similar to fishing a topwater frog? Also, what is your line of preference? I was thinking braid will help in the hook set department. Quote

From my dozen or so fish in the hudd, you wait till the rod loads up and I use mono, but you could definitely use braid. The only reason I don't is because if I backlash I don't want to watch an expensive lure fly off the end of my line... Quote
