Super User A-Jay Posted October 4, 2010 Super User Posted October 4, 2010 What's the verdict on these as compared to other top quality brand crankbait replacements ? Are they worth the extra $$ ? A-Jay Quote
Puma Jim Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 yes, they are very strong and sharp and KVD designed them so you can use bigger sizes on your cranks. It is the only hook I use now on mine I think they are that good. Quote
Five-Alive Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I have used them this year with excellent results. Actually don't think I have lost a single fish on one. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted October 4, 2010 Super User Posted October 4, 2010 I'm a fan... seemed to help my landing ratio. Quote
DBatey Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I have tried every hook made, they are by far my favorite now Quote
hitchhiker Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Come to think of it, most if not all of my lost fish were on baits that I didn't switch to KVD trebles. Time to get more. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 4, 2010 Author Super User Posted October 4, 2010 Thanks - that's some high praise. I'm going to snag a few packs and make the switch. A-Jay Quote
Stringjam Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 How are they different than the Gamakatsu EWG Trebles (of which they look very similar)? I've been using those for quite some time with great results. Quote

I've been using those for quite some time with great results. Guess I'll find out because this is what I usually replace most stock hooks with. Also they are the only replacement I can get locally. I'll let you know. I did forget to mention, I do have some trouble with the trebles tangling together especially if I go up one size. Sometimes a reduction in split ring size can help but not always. So a shorter treble sounds like a good idea. A-Jay Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I switched almost all my cranks to these types of hooks and haven't lost a fish so far on them. Quote
Bryce C Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I just replaced some hooks on a couple of bandits with those and I've been very pleased with them.....they are as good as the gamis I normally use or better, in my opinion. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I only use Owner stingers...anyone that has used both have one they prefer over the other? Quote
DBatey Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Someone asked how they are different than the gammys, they have a short shank, and they are 2x strong wire. In the smaller sizes the gammy EWG hooks are 1x wire and tend to bend easily. Someone asked about the owners, I know a lot of people like them, but by definition of an Owner hook is a "cutting point" and I feel they make too large of an entry hole and I get better results with any of the EWG style hooks than Owners. I have been using the EWG gammys because they have a shorter shank than the Mustad EWG hooks, but the KVD version is the shortest of all, and I have been having wonderful real world results with them. I will be changing over as I can afford them for all of my baits. Quote

No, by definition a Cutting Point is a "cutting point." I agree, they are more suited for hard jawed species, not bass. That's why I use Owner Stinger ST-36 for bass, which feature their Needle Point hooks. Quote
ToledoEF Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Owner st-36 better price and way more sharp! Quote
boneil Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I don't like them because I keep stickin my fingers with them. I've never drawn blood with factory hooks, but since switching to these kvd trebles I've had to break out the first aid kit quite a few times. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 6, 2010 Super User Posted October 6, 2010 Sharp hooks a bad thing? LOL. Quote
