BassAssassin726 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Guitar and bass fishing are my two passions. Been playing guitar since I was 12. Almost 20 years of performing fretboard autopsy. I'm mostly into hard rock and metal. Some of my heroes include Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Satriani, Jimmy Page, Hendrix, B.B. King, Guthrie Govan, the list goes on and on. I love the "shredders" of the instrument. But my tastes go from Bach to Slayer. So, roll call for all the guitarists out there! What do you like to play? How long have you been shredding? Who are your heroes of the instrument? 3 Quote
Smokinal Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I can air guitar with the best of 'em to any 80's metal! Priest, Maiden, Dokken, you name it, I love it! 2 Quote
bassguytom Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I'm a blues harp player but if you like shredders you might want to check out Joe Bonamassa. They guy is the real deal. 4 Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 5, 2013 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 5, 2013 My grandmother was a professional blue grass musician. She taught me the guitar and banjo. I still play occasionally, mostly country, but it is with the Martin she left me in the will. And usually because I was thinking of her. 2 Quote

Jolly Green Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 What? I didn't catch that; I was busy trying to finagle this high E string into a wire leader... Quote
Hattrick7 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Been playing since the 80s. Like and appreciate all kinds of guitarists but really dig Slash, Warren dimartini, SRV, Steve Jones (sex pistols), satch...just to name a few. Quote

Snakehead Whisperer Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Been playing since I was 11 or 12. I also play the drums, bass, and banjo (and pretty much anything else I can get my hands on.) My biggest influences have probably been Dave Murray, Tony Iommi, and Randy Rhoads. 3 Quote

martintheduck Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Heros? Josh Homme, Sam Prekop, Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Muddy, Joe Pass.... Taught myself to play after hurricane katrina in 2005. Fell in love with delay pedals, atmosphere, space, and minimalism. Recently I have fallen in love with desert rock/stoner rock because most of it is based off a really sexy "hook"... I actually have gotten evicted from a few places for playing music, but that all got solved when I bought a house recently and built a sound proof studio and started doing some home recording... Learned to play drums pretty well in the past 6 years or so too... Here's some of my favorites I've done... https://soundcloud.com/martintheduck/my-song-3 https://soundcloud.com/martintheduck/martinoriginal2 https://soundcloud.com/martintheduck/life-is-strange https://soundcloud.com/martintheduck/tuckinyourtoes Get's really annoying living in North Louisiana because everyone here plays country and stuff --- no like minded musicians to play with :\ Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 2, 2014 Super User Posted January 2, 2014 Been playing since I was little , self taught but still love the guitar , rhythm is all I really play , very little lead , my favorite is Country and Southern Rock but Rush , Boston , SRV , Hair Bands from the 70's and 80's , as long as the song has a lot of drive in it I will learn to play it . Have not picked it up in quite a while , makes me wanna go home and play now LOL !! Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I've been playing for about 5 years off and on. I love me some Blues! Rory Gallagher Roy Buchanan Hound Dog Taylor Luther Allison Muddy Walter Trout SRV Jimi How do you guys practice? I'm kind of in a practice rut now. Quote
gramps50 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I have been trying to teach myself for about 4 months now. Fingers are just starting to learn where to go so I guess it will come in time. Started with an electric that a friend gave me. Decided to get an acoustic as it is more portable and liked the sound of the acoustic better so that's what I play the most. My favorite style is bluegrass and traditional country. Need to practice more............. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 18, 2014 Super User Posted July 18, 2014 I responded earlier with my guitar brands of choice. But I've been playing since I started in my later teens (16 or 17 I think). Had 2 months of lessons, short span of attention as with other instruments. Self taught the rest of the way. Will be 45 in August, so plenty of years there. I'm acoustic all the way. And in the past 5 years I started playing everything in open D after a deep cut on the tip of my middle finger (left hand - fret hand). Standard tuning hurt a lot due to deep scar tissue so I began experimenting with open D's lesser string tension. Now that's the only tuning I like to play in. Quote
FSUMF333 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I myself have been playing a little over 20 years self taught. Currently rocking a les Paul had an awesome SG but my son knocked it over & broke the headstock off still bummed about it miss that one hardcore looked just like an iommi. I love stoner ,death metal & thrash but don't get to play much anymore do to the whole father thing but I love em. The great thing though is my wife let's me fish when I want and supports me in so that's been awesome. Quote
tander Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Instead of starting a new topic, I found this one in search. Anybody else play guitar. Started back in the 60's, got back into in the late 90's and played for about 7 or 8 years. Well like bass fishing I started again last year. Love to play surf songs, Ventures, The Belairs, etc. So anybody still playing. Sow some pictures of you guitars if you have them. I have a 2000 Fender Tele 52' RI through a Deluxe Fender Reverb, and a Taylor 714 cedar top. Quote
Firefish Alumacraft Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I play some guitar self taught, but I do play the banjo. I mostly played Blue Grass and some new songs but I haven't played in some time. 1 Quote
