With winter fishing coming I have looked at some of the heated jacket/pants that are available. Wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

How well do they work, worth the cost?

The only one I have seen. I would not even pay half of what they want for it. I am old school, and grew up in carhartts or army surplus winter gear. I can go out for long periods of time. Wearing just a carhartt jacket, over alls, jeans, a t shirt, normal work boots, and thin gloves. I have never been cold, or gotten wet wearing carhartts. The same gos for army surplus winter gear. Depending on what you are looking at. You can buy a carhartt jacket, and overalls. For around 200-300. The bibs are way warm also. Most of the time. I can get away with just them, and a hoodie. I have been in snow up to my waist for hours. The carhartt's never got cold. After I took them off when I got home. My base layer was still dry to the touch.

They might be expensive at first. But totally worth it. I bet there are plenty of people. On this site that will back me. On the worth factor. They also last a long time. My dad had a set for like 10 years.

I have used them for snowmobiling ... just a heated jacket and gloves also I had a heated helmet... they worked very well for that.. but I'm not sure how that would work for fishing.. like tipptruck said I use carhatts for fishing last a long long time!

It doesnt matter how warm the jacket is if it isnt that waterproof. I dont know how carhartt jackets hold up to water but that is my #1 concern.  It is a delicate balance of staying dry, not sweating and staying warm.

The few carhartt's I have had. I have never had a problem with wather. Like I said before. I have spent hours in snow. When I get home my base layers are always dry. Here is some thing from A web site. About the fabic of carhartt's. http://www.constructiongear.com/carhartt-fabric-guides.html

Seen some electric in soles. For your shoes in an FLW magazine recently. Had a wireless remote. If I can keep my feet warm i don't get cold. But if they get cold I'm done for. If I had the money I'd buy them.

I like my carhartt stuff too!

Had some battery heated socks roughly ten years ago. Kept feet toasty warm, but were VERY uncomfortable to wear due the the "heating wire". I am sure the new stuff is much better, and much more expensive.

A few things about keeping warm....Outer layer must be at least windproof, waterproof is even better. This keeps wind from sweeping through clothes and stealing valuable body heat.

Head and neck area must be covered and kept warm...absolute must.

I use cabelas MTO 50 parka and bibs and stay very warm. both are waterproof, I also use a windstopper balaclava to keep head/neck warm.

Have you looked into Artic Armor clothing? Not heated but waterproof, windproof, and sub zero protection. They even make an ice fishing suit that is waterproof and floats if you fall thru.

Been looking at a few things, the heated items just caught my attention.

I have pretty good gear for cold weather, just those mornings breaking skim ice with the boat or 25 minutes runs in 27 degree weather makes you double check if there is something better.

Thanks for the suggestions, one thing which helps a lot also is a Save Phace mask.

I have a heated jacket that my wife bought me for winter fishing.  It is made by Milwaukee(the tool brand) and runs off a rechargeable battery that sits in a little side pocket.  Works great and I would recommend it.  Only downside I see is, when the battery runs out, so does the heat.

****Can be found much cheaper than link...just shows the one I have*****

I have a jacket made by Milwaukee power tool company that is heated and it is GREAT. It runs off of their small drill battery, which is housed in a small zipper pocket on the back. The jacket has a high, medium, and low setting but regulates itself once you turn it on. It gets very toasty when layered under bibs or waders when I'm duck hunting. Definitely worth the money!! Oh and the battery life surprised me as well!
