I am looking at reels for a baitcasting rod and I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars. I was looking at these two and was wondering if anyone has them and thinks they are good or not. The Cabelas one is on sale so it seems like a good deal. I have had good luck with Shimano spinning reels so I am assuming that this baitcasting one will be good too for the price. Has anybody had good luck with them? I was wondering about the durability of them

Never owned the cabelas one but i own 4 citicas and for the money, they are one of the best reels out there.  I also fish from a kayak so my gear has a tendency to get beat up a little bit but I have no complaints.

What pound line do you use on them?

My Prodigy is the older gray model.  I've read that this model is a better reel than the new ones, but that is only hearsay.  No real idea if that is true.  I can say that my Prodigy is built like a tank.  I sent it out while still NIB for cleaning and slight upgrades. The guy who worked on it said it responded very well to tuning.  (I hadn't even spooled it.  He sent it back with line on it.)  I do like the looks of the newer model better, tho.  Guess I am shallow.  :teeth3:

I don't own a Citica, but they have always been well thought of reels...especially on this forum.  :teeth:

I am a Daiwa fan.  At the sale price, I'd have to try the new model.

Grey Prodigy is a Daiwa Advantage HSTA varient and the newer black and red one is a scaled back version of the Daiwa Aggrest.

Between current models I'd go Citica.

I know you asked about two specific reels, but just wanted to suggest that in that same price range the BPS Pro Qualifier is well worth consideration. You can find many posts here on the forum about its value and reliability. That being said if you're really set on the two you've posted about then go with what you're most comfortable with.

I have the new Prodigy, it's a nice looking reel. I can't compare it to anything because they are my first bait casting reels. They do work smoothly, and are easy to adJust.
