bkohlman Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 If you were to create a "Starter Kit" for the drop shotting angler what would you include? Quote
LMB ANGLER Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 A rod and spinning 1000 size reel with 8 pound fluorocarbon line spooled and couple of 1/0 hooks and small worms with different colors, for different situations. price would be 40 to 50 bucks Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 4, 2013 Super User Posted November 4, 2013 This is pretty similar to your other thread. Quote
bkohlman Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Looking more for tackle (Hooks, baits, sinkers) recommendations other than gear (rods, reels, line) Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 4, 2013 Super User Posted November 4, 2013 #2 VMC spinshot hooks, 3/8 oz. dropshot sinker, 4" straight tail worm in the brand/color of your choice. If you don't get bit drop shotting this, your not around fish. 2 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 4, 2013 Super User Posted November 4, 2013 X2 on the VMC hooks. Size 1 or 2 would be fine for general use. I would get the slender sinkers in 3/16 and 1/4 oz. For baits my can't miss top 5 would be in no order. 4 inch roboworm FX sculpin roboworm Jackall I-shad Jackall cross tail shad Keitech 4 inch swing impact This cover about 80% of what I do with a dropshot... 1 Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 The Powerteam Lures JP Hammershad drop shot kit is pretty awesome and you can get a clear water and a stained water set that includes the hooks, weights, baits and tackle tray. 2 Quote
MikeinFresno Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I like to use the long 1/4 to 5/16 oz drop shot sinkers. I bend them in a curve and find they hang up less. I also use a lite wire hook as it seems the fish just gets itself hooked very well just on its own without much of a set from me. Quote
martintheduck Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Starter kit - 1/4oz tungsten straight drop shot weights, #1 gamakatsu drop shot/split shot hooks, ZOOM finesse worms in watermelon seed. If you want a more complete kit - 1/16thoz , 1/8oz, 1/4oz, 3/8oz tungsten straight drop shot weights (duplicates weights in ball style drop shot weights too), #1/2/3 drop shot hooks, and a TON of straight tail and finesse roboworms in all the colors! MacP Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I've landed the majority of my fish over the past two months on drop shot rig. 6'6" M spinning outfit with 8lb fluoro. 1/8 all the way to 3/8s cylinder weights, they don't tangle the line as much. #1 and 1/0 Gammy drop shot hooks (I just picked up more today!) I fish Roboworms fat and straight. Colors in SXE Shad, Bold Bluegill, Aaron's Magic, Baby Bluegill, Kerrlicious, and Warmouth. Bold bluegill being the best. If you've not fished them, I can heartily recommend the new Zoom Z-drop worms too. It's a rip off of the Jackall Crosstail shads. I like them though. Green Pumpkin and green weenie color of choice. Rodney Heupel Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 6'8" to 7' medium lite action rod, 2500 sized spinning reel spooled with 6lb floro, Gamakatsu size 4 split shot/drop shot hooks, QuickDrops sinkers 1/16, 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4 ounce to start. Robo worms size 4.5 inch, 3.5 inch reapers, shade shaped worms, 3 inch senkos all in colors of Aaron's magic, watermellons, greenpumkins, whites and any local favorite color you have confidence in. Hattrick7 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Size 4 owner circle hooks, straight tail roboworms, drop shot weights plus an little instruction thing telling you to re thread your tag end through the eye of the hook so the hook is facing up and telling you to let the bass take the bait and slowly start reeling to get it hooked. Super User Crestliner2008 Posted November 10, 2013 Super User Posted November 10, 2013 Gammy #2 DS/SS hook. 6# test main line (fluoro or braid....I'm starting to lean more to braid these days, with a fluoro leader). 1/4 oz. STEEL bass casting sinkers. (No need to go crazy with the expense of tungsten, unless you are flush.) Several packs of Roboworms. You're good to go. Quote
