Why is it that I can buy all the hot plastics, missile, biffle bugs, robo worms and beavers , which I'm addicted too. But at end of day zoom out fishes em all for me. This includes jig trailers too, I can put on a paca craw, beaver or what ever and when I put the ole super chunk jr, it will out fish the others. Is it safe to say zoom is my confidence bait . ? Just wondering if I'm on fast track to nut house or others have same issue?

Zoom is widely considered to be a good line of plastics and is clearly your confidence bait. But I can assure you that many other brands of plastics do very well too. Is it possible you're giving up on these too soon and going back to Zoom because of that confidence factor?

I could very well be not giving them the right chance , but I always figure why not be catching fish with lures I can catch em with ! One way I think it's a good thing, in another way I think I'm limiting myself!

The goal is to catch bass, use what works for you.

Do you fish or with a partner? Sometimes it's good to fish with other anglers to get a barometer of how well you are doing. Getting out fished is a good incentive to make a few changes.

100% confidence. I do the same thing. Every year I load up the boat with "new" stuff to try, and at the end of the year it all gets sold to buy more of the half dozen baits I always catch fish on. Every fall I say .......that's it, no more new stuff, but I get bored and buy crap all winter long.

Hi guys my name is Caylub and I am addicted to soft plastics. The Zoom trick worms are my thing at the moment. I went fishing a few times ago and couldn't get a bite to save my life. Tied on a June bug trick worm weightless and weedless. Got one then a couple more. The next time I went still had it tied on a rod and pulled in a few more fish. I went out yesterday and caught all 5 of my fish on that setup, just slow rolling it back to me with a few random pauses and hops. Its definitely my confidence bait at the moment but, I am noticing all of the fish I have caught in this have been the same size. About 1 lb. That's fishing 3 different ponds btw.

Confidence is important, but it is also important to understand the baits action as well. Baits manufactured that have identice actions should yield the same results, but those that have subtle differences yield different results. They may have a different fall rate falling action, action when twitched.

If you have access to a swimming pool cast the bait into the pool and become an expert with its action with different presentations.

I used to be the same way, but I'm getting better about it. I've tried to stop buying all the eye catching colors and sticking with the baits that produce every year. I'll still get a couple different baits each year to try, but I usually come back to the proven baits.

As for the OP's question, I used to be stuck on the nothing but Zoom baits boat also, but since I discovered Netbait and Berkley introduced the Havoc lineup I have a lot fewer bags of Zoom in my boat.

Leave your confidence baits at home until you develope a "new" confidence bait, then leave that one at home too. Thats really the only way I gain confidence in other baits. I go fishing to catch bass, period. If I give myself the opportunity to rely on one bait or presentation, I will do so. Fishing that way, Im severely limiting myself. I have a lot of confidence in three or completely different styles of fishing now, not to mention multiple baits/colors in each style.

I read that tip here, and it has really changed me as an angler. I am much more confident now, and can confidently present many different baits in many different ways.
