RNSkeeter Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Ordered a whole bunch of North Star Jigs recently (can't wait to get 'em in!) and was going through my jig box. I'm not entirely happy with the way I store them now, just in individual dividers in a typical Plano style box. I can't really see the head or the skirt color all that well. How do you store your jigs? Anyone doing anything novel? A few ideas I had were to get foam strips and stick them in a row along the foam strips. I tested the idea on cardboard and I liked the visibility to see each jig properly. I didn't find any novel containers made by plano or flambeu. Any thoughts? Quote
Super User bigbill Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 I use 6 Plano 3700 boxes to store all my jigs at home. In the bottom of my tackle box my jigs are setup with trailers in different colors in zip loc bags. I carry just a few different ones with me. My Siebert Outdoor jigs I have are most of the different jigs that Mike offers. I have the boxes all labeled. So there all sorted out to there types, colors and sizes. I find it awesome to have a supply at home in-house. My jigs are ready to go swimming at a moment's notice. If I'm just going to fish with jigs I have the 3700 boxes in a soft tackle bag. Quote
BenBassmaster Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I've seen people store them in Spinnerbait/Buzzbait Tackle Boxes. The only problem is it bends the weed guard a little more than I like, but you can see the color and head very well. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 Ive tried a bunch of ways and found a 3700 series Plano works the best for me. It holds 24 compartments. I put each color and each style together. 3 North Star Blacks or Flip n Swims will fit into each space. Extras I keep on the wall. I use about 22 different North Star Jigs and with storing them together, I don't have to worry about weight, color and head size. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 3, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 3, 2013 Regular Plano 3700 box for me also. I try to arrange them by similar head, weight, and color as best I can but with 4 or 5 boxes packed full of a few hundred jigs it gets tough at times. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 Nothing special, just 3700 size boxes Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 3700 sized Plano flipsiders for Rattle Traps. Got them on clearance for $2. One ounce jigs fit (don't own bigger but I doubt bigger would fit). Just grab one and tie on, no jumbling trying to get one or hook points poking you. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 I use a Cabelas utility binder along with a plano 3600 box. The binder holds my go to jigs which change depending on the body of water I'm fishing, I have the clear binder bags labeled with size, color and type of jig that makes them quick and easy to find. If I am going to fish a lake that has a lot of brush and I know based on the conditions that I will probably use a jig then I take my large binder and in it will be 10 bags of jigs, 3 bags of 1/4oz jigs, 1 bag will have arky heads, another will have a brush head, and another will have a round head, the same thing with the others, 3 bags of 3/8oz, 3 bags of 1/2oz, and 1 bag I have assorted skirts on a collar in case I have a jig skirt get ripped up or I need just a change in color. In my bag I have a 3600 plano box that has extra colors of each size jig, I normally will have 3 to 5 colors of each size and again, this is stuff I found over time so keeping a log will help down the road, it allows me to keep my gear down. I do keep a few extra "odd ball" colors and patterns just in case but the tackle binder allows you quick access to the most productive jigs in your arsenal, you can also add trailers to it if you limit the jigs or sizes. skeletor6 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Another guy who uses 3700 plano's. Wish Northstar had some lighter hair jigs. But those planos work very well. Quote
dreamertino Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 At the end of September I had one bps box the same size as the Plano 3700 now its full so I have to get another jigs are addictive Quote
dreamertino Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 One little tip, if you store multiple jigs in the same slot make sure you let them dry before you put them back in your box. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 Plano 3700. Sorted by weight, color, and style. One box holds all my jigs, as I keep it simple. Black/blue and green pumpkin for my flipping jigs 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, and 1oz. Black/blue and green pumpkin for my finesse jigs 3/16 and 5/16 oz. Black/blue and green pumpkin for my football jigs 1/2, and 3/4 oz. And White, black/blue, and bluegill for my swim jigs in 1/4 and 3/8 oz. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 plano 3700. my jig fishing consists of generally 3 primary colors so i take the middle divider out of every other insert and use 12 spaces instead of 24. top row gets finesse second gets 1/4 third gets 3/8 bottom gets 1/2. blue craw, green pumpkin/red (watermelon red/green pumpkin craw-theres 40 different names for the same color), black/blue or black/purple. one box for brush jigs, one box for football jigs. third box i have divided in the same way but /w 3/16-5/16 swim jigs in half that are separated by color and size and the bottom is for heavier 3/4 flipping jigs/football jigs. Smokinal Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I buy home grown jigs from a couple of different guys and both of them send them in a small, ziplock style plastic bag. So when I get them, I label the bag with a sharpie and then store them all in a 1 gallon ziplock bag. then I keep the whole mess of them in my deck compartment. I store all my worms in another gallon bag, my tubes in another etc... Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 4, 2013 Super User Posted November 4, 2013 Another 3700 box user here. I have my jigs organized by weight and color in rows and columns inside the compartments. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 4, 2013 Super User Posted November 4, 2013 3700 boxes. I had tried out a "jig" storage box and went back to 3700 boxes. I separate by color and style, but I limit my purchases to just a few colors and styles. For instance I recently received an order for 40 Northstar jigs. 20 of those were the same jig and the other 20 were split into 3 colors. I also limit the weights to 2 sizes, 1/2oz for flipping and 3/8oz for swimming. One last box for misc. jigs and colors I've picked up over time. Easy peasy japanesey. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Plano 3700's for organizing all of my jigs. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 4, 2013 Super User Posted November 4, 2013 I use the Plano Hydro Flow boxes. No more rust. http://www.planomolding.com/product.php?BCCID=138&PID=773 Quote
