Hey, Guys

Just wondering how many of you buy backup lures before your fishing season starts......? Understanding some of you fish year around.... I fish each weekend from March thru October and end my (off season) cleaning, restocking, and studying for the next season........ How many backup lures do you buy or do you just buy as needed when you loose or break a crankbait.... Looking for ideas when I restock in Jan....

Thanks

Tight Lines........

It depends on the bait.  I try to buy at least 2 of everything.  If it's a proven bait that I know I will use a lot, I might have 4 or 5 of them.  To help offset the quantity of baits I carry,  I try to limit myself to just a few colors that will cover all water conditions.

When I buy a new bait, I usually get 2, either 1 color and 2 different sizes or 2 different colors, it depends on the bait. If I go out and find that the new bait was a good one, I'll often go and get at least 1 duplicate of what worked and maybe a few other colors so I have something for any condition. I restock hard baits as I go but when the water gets hard, that is when I go through my soft plastics and see which ones need to be restocked so I make it through the season.

When stocking crankbaits I usually stock depending on water conditions. Natural selections on clear to lightly stained water . Other colors and or wide or tight wobbling depending on water clarity and water tempature . I also try and keep a log of what I get hits on , fish moods tends to change so I have to have a range . Also stock up on trebels.

I'm a lure color freak besides being a lure junkie. When a have success with a lure and it out fishes the other lures I buy a lot of them. As each different color of the same type of lure catches fish too I buy more of those. I have a fear of my lures and color style being discontinued too. Like the BPS XPS Topnocker and the Bomber FAT A. The topnocker is the hottest topwater lure I have ever used. The bomber FAT A has been my go to lure for eons even in the old craw and shad colors it still catches fish. I stock up every lure that I have success with. It's costly but I feel better by having them in-house rather than scrambling trying to buy them all up when there discontinued. The older stuff still works and never lets me fail. Now once a new lure works for me I purchase two of every color to start off with so I can match any water and light condition. As time goes on I purchase more. I have boxes of cranks, plastics. I give lures to my kids too.

I'll buy a couple of the same if it's a proven bait. If it's a proven bait and it's getting discontinued I'll buy dozens.

At least 2 extras if it works good. If it's an experiment, not until and unless it works.

The minute a new lure catches fish it's on like donkey Kong buying them.
