Mainebass1984 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Got to the lake today with high hopes. I was hoping to repeat the last couple weeks success. It was near 50 degrees mostly sunny with calm winds. After fishing the first couple hour with little success I realized everything had changed and that the pattern I was on was no more. The lake had come up 4 feet, the water clarity dropped to 1 foot. It was mostly sunny not overcast like it had been. There was calm winds as opposed to the 5-15 mph winds last weekend. After 4 hours I had caught 1 bass a 18.5 inch 3 lb 12 oz largemouth. I decided to adjust and change up location, lure and tactics. It seemed to be the right choice. IN the last 2.5 hours of fishing I caught 3 largemouth and 2 smallies. The largemouth were 2-10, 2-12, 2-13. The two smallies were 2-11 and a 20 inch smallie at 3 lbs 9 oz. The 3-9 smallmouth was very skinny. The day ended much better then it started. I caught three fish on a crankbait, one on a jig and one on a weightless worm. I think that the next day I will be fishing will be Thursday. Fish # 1 18.5 inch 3 lb 12 oz Largemouth Fish # 2 20 inch 3 lb 9 oz Smallmouth Quote
Super User Shane J Posted November 3, 2013 Super User Posted November 3, 2013 Nice start, Mainebass. I knew yesterday was going to be tougher than people thought. Today, even tougher, but I'm heading out into the eye of the storm with my buddy DeakNH, see if we can't wake up a couple big heads. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I have decided to give it a go as well. Heading to a different pond today. I will be targeting fish in 15-45 feet. Good luck ! 1 Quote
aceman387 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Ice fishing is not fishing. Its sitting.drinking.and waiting. And complaining about our lives and our wives. anybody bring cigars Quote
KyakR Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Awesome looking fish, Mainebass! I do ice fish quite a bit. It isn't just sitting around and drinking beer. You can do that and catch fish, sure. I prefer to actively go and find the fish. The only time I really sit down and wait for fish is breakfast and lunch. You catch more fish if you go and actively look for them as opposed ot sitting around and waiting for them to swim by your bait. When I hired a guide some years back to take me on my first ice fishing trip this is what I thought ice-fishing would be. He had a nice little hut out on the lake, and at first it was great......learned about augers, tip-ups, etc. But then we sat in the hut. He hauled out some Allen's and Fireball whiskey and after 20 min called his family....out they came on their snowmobiles.....brought a firepit and more Allen's. Every now and then they'd notice the flags and would howl and fall and crawl over to haul a fish out. I left early and nobody noticed Quote

Smokinal Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I'm not "in" just yet. I need to make some sort of ruler box first but thought i'd give my update form today. It was a cold, cold windy morning with wind straight out of the north blowing hard. Air started at 33, water was still 51 though. I got 18 and my little brother caught 12. Mostly on the jerkbait and a few on a pbj jig. Most came on a point with deep water close by. I had (4) 3 to 3.5's and the rest were 1-2 pounders. We fished from 6am to 10:30. Here's one with a full belly.... Quote
Nashua Nev Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 nice, i will be back out on wed morning, then sat, my other addiction of hockey has been taking up most of my mornings. Just back from a week of playing in an old timers tourney in montreal. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Very nice smokinal. Sounds like you had a great day. the water looks pretty calm where you were. When I got to the lake I wanted to fish there were 2-3 foot white caps. They weren't just white caps they were rollers.. the wind was blowing 15-25 mph. the wind chill was in the low 20's. I stuck around the boat launch for about an hour. After that I decided it just wasn't a good idea to take my 10.5 foot boat out there in those conditions. I think I will be getting out this Thursday. Mainebass1984 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I went our fishing this morning with high hopes. A warm overcast light rainy day in November. Seemed like the perfect combination to catch some late season bass. It was a warm 50 degrees when I got to the lake. The water temp was 44-45 degrees, light rain with winds out of the south around 5-10 mph. I motored over to y first spot with my electric. On my first cast of the day I hooked into a real nice bass. After a decent fight I slid it into the net. It was a lunker largemouth at 22.25 inches 7 lbs 6 oz. After fishing the spot for several minutes and trying several different lures I moved onto the next spot. Caught another bass there about 2.5 lbs. Fished there awhile then moved on. Got to the next spot where I quickly landed a 18.25 inch 3 lb 3 oz largemouth. It was so skinny it was it looked sick. Every time I moved to a new spot I would catch a bass. I then moved to one of my favorite spots where I caught a 8 lber two weeks ago. First cast I hook into a monster. It was real heavy and felt like a stump that was head shaking. After a couple moments it got off. Hooked just pulled out. I know it was a lunker but you cant catch them all I guess. Several casts later I switched up lures and then hooked into a monster bass. It pulled my boat left then right and wouldn't come up off bottom. I was chasing it a bit with the trolling motor. I got it to the surface and couldn't believe what I saw. It was a giant. After some tense moments I got it into the net. It seemed to barely fit. It was the biggest bass I had ever seen or caught for that matter. It measured 23.5 inches long and 19.5 inches around. I weighed it several times. Biggest bass I have ever caught at 9 lbs 1 oz. I took some photos, a video and grabbed a couple scales for aging and let her go. When the day was over I had landed 5 largemouth and 1 smallmouth. I didn't catch a single fish after the front passed through at 1 o'clock. First bass of the day 22.25 inches 7 lbs 6 oz 18.25 inches 3 lbs 3 oz 23.5 inches long 19.5 in girth 9 lbs 1 oz Here's a video I took of it. 4 Quote

MARsSPEED Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Got out for a little over 2 hours today. 30 MPH winds made conditions tough. Only caught two but one of them was the biggest fish I have landed in two months. 13.5" 19.5" Totals 19.5", 13.5", 13", 13", 13" @ 72" Quote
nastynate Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Don't know what this competition is all about but here is my 22 inch smallie I caught nov.6 at the Susquehanna river. It's also my personal best. Hit a few other hogs that day. 2 Quote
