I went fishing today in Orange Park hit up a bunch of new spots.  It was extremely windy and in the high 60's mid 70's through out. Went to a new spot that I never fished before.  It was a nice size pond and had a creek that was probably about 30 feet wide and was about 50yds long. Caught a ton of fish today I only got 2 on a frog in baby bass color.  When I first got there I casted out a few times down the creek and then a giant inhaled my frog I only saw her head, my buddy saw her body when she came unhooked and claimed she was pushing DD... she felt like it too that was around 1:15p. After that I caught two more on a frog but nothing that I could replace any fish with.

My buddy was slaying them on a KVD 1.5 crank bait so I decided to tie one on. I was using a crawfish colored one he was using a shad colored one.  Pulled in a bunch of fish between us. For the first time I was catching REAL largemouth bass, I'm sick of these black bass lol, the colors on these fish were beautiful.  He caught a nice 2.5lb and he missed another that was probably close to 4. Now for me I cast out by this pipe in the water and start to reel got about 3 yards past it and BOOM.  To make a long story short she came off and I got my crank back mangled R.I.P. I should have taken a picture of it.

We hit up a few other spots and wrapped up around 4:20p.  Caught a ton of fish all on cranks. My theory is that the wind makes the bait fish scurry but not on the top so the bass are in all you can eat mode few feet below the surface.  We didn't see much top water or shallow action most strikes came as the crank was approaching the shallows from deeper water.

I didn't have my tape measure with me but nothing would have made the cut except the two that got off.

I'm going fishing this weekend with Czar and DS I'm going to take them there Saturday so hopefully we have a productive day and can post some pics of these beautiful fish.  Catching a 10lb largemouth out of there would make one hell of a wall mount, I have never seen such distinct colors on fish before.

If we are discussing the BEST baits then I have an opinion.  There are only 5 you need to do well in central Fl and here is how I rig them.

Bitters Naked Swimmer in ghost shad- Texas rig, 3/8 th oz tungsten pegged with a bobber stop on 40 lb power pro.  7-6 MH with  HS reel.

Bitters vibe in blue berry - t-rig 1/8 th oz tungsten pegged on 20 lb power pro. 7-11 Med with HS reel

Baby paca craw - t-rig with 1/2 oz to 1.5 oz pegged on 65 lb PP.  7-9 Heavy HS reel.

Rage Toad t rig with 1/8 oz tungsten pegged on 65 lb.  7-6 MH with HS reel.

Rage Menace on a Rage rig on 65 lb PP.  7-6 MH with a HS reel

I have probably 10 other setups on the boat but these five are always on the deck and catch the majority of my tourney fish.

Tstone and I are on THE WALK this weekend with Brandon Bassmasters.  Big fish pic's to follow.

I'm not contestant but probably had my most productive bass fishing day in a long time yesterday about noon.  Went to a canal I hadn't visited in quite some time and right from the git go it was hot.  I had 7' med spinning rod with 12# braid and 1 1/2 packs of flukes in my pocket.  Not much more than 45 minutes later the flukes were gone, I only missed landing 2 fish (a few short strikes too).  A good portion of the fish were in the 15-18" range, nothing big but I know on past experience they are there.

Idk, what's going on. You would think with 25 people, this place would be buzzing. I guess everyone is serious this month. Ever since Martin's mom came into town she doesn't let him play on the computer.... LOL, I communicated with him earlier and told me he has been spending his time working on another production. Can't wait for that one.

Hey all. Haven't posted since Saturday because my braid somehow sliced my casting thumb (didn't think fishing too much is possible). It's almost healed. Restrung the braid and might head out tonight to see what I can pull in. Looking at some of these posts, I best hurry.

Also, this time change it the worst. Picked up a head lamp on amazon for $40 and it's amazing. red light is the key.

I can't fish except in the weekends with the time change so I'm pouting.

I will say the time change isn't all roses for me, I now need to be at the water at 5:30 and can be done by 6:30 or 7 to get my dawn time in....That means I need to get up at 4:45 to 5 am. Like I said not complaining because I still can go fishing but not roses. LOL

Just curious.  Why a red light?  Are bass thrown off by a white light?

On sea turtle nesting beaches, they require you to use red light or a red cover over your normal light. Apparently it's invisible to the turtles.

Also.."red light does not bleach the photopigment we depend upon for our night vision. Consequently, one can use a red light briefly to fill out a data form and still be able to see in the dark when the light is turned off."

White light reflects and causes night blindness, and is obvious to animals. And like bosox said red travels better at night and doesnt bother animals. Emergency vehicles us red and blue lights for a reason, laws of physics. Blue is better seen in day and red at night. However the interesting thing is most animals will not notice the red light.
