On sea turtle nesting beaches, they require you to use red light or a red cover over your normal light. Apparently it's invisible to the turtles.

Also.."red light does not bleach the photopigment we depend upon for our night vision. Consequently, one can use a red light briefly to fill out a data form and still be able to see in the dark when the light is turned off."

And here is the "thought of the day" post, lol.

Hey all. Haven't posted since Saturday because my braid somehow sliced my casting thumb (didn't think fishing too much is possible). It's almost healed. Restrung the braid and might head out tonight to see what I can pull in. Looking at some of these posts, I best hurry.

Also, this time change it the worst. Picked up a head lamp on amazon for $40 and it's amazing. red light is the key.

got out this afternoon/evening from about 4-6.  Pretty slow day for me only got one on a ribbit frog louisana craw color right around 5pm, missed one other hit.  Tossed it right out in front of a culvert and fish hit it immediately.  Only 14" but ill take it.  puts me at 28 for the month.  Threw a KVD crank in sexy shad color for the other hour w/ no luck.  Im not to familiar w the crank bait and never really have throw one before but i think its a pretty valuable lure to get a handle on.  This may be my last day out til saturday when i get out w AK.  Friday's forecast is again calling for 25-35mph winds so im already cancelling my fishing for that day lol. post-42573-0-06387200-1383782446_thumb.j

Dsidle that fish puts you at 38, not 28. Why would let 25-35, mph winds stop you from fishing. You are fishing from the bank right? If you tell me from a boat, maybe.

Glad you joined up this month. Look forward to seeing some pic of the fish you get......How do you work the menace? on top?

Something I learned from Big O at the roadtrip this year. Rig in on a 3-0 Moaner Rage hook.  You work it on top of submerged vegetation mostly.  It will flutter down horizontally and sit on top without burying into the top of the mat like a t-rig does.  Twitch it and hang on because they don't nibble on it.

I believe youre math is a bit off (clearly so was mine lol) from my count i have that 21" caught right at the beginning and now this 14" that should put me at 35".  I mean id love to take the extra inches lol but I reluctantly will give them back.  I guess i could give it a shot just have to shrink my lure selection last time throwing soft plastic senkos and lizards was impossible.

Dsidle are you throwing a b/c or a spinner? Senko's flukes, frogs, heavy plastics will fly, but don't cast directly into the wind. Depending on your location, position the wind behind you, then your baits will really fly. If your throwing  with b/c you will definitely have to make some adjustments.

spinner.  yeah we had that heavy wind the other day in two of my ponds the wind blew directly across my face and i cant get to the side of the bank that puts it behind me in the 3rd pond i tried i got it at my back but it put me on the bank that i usually cast onto and roll down into the pond lol just my luck!  I didnt have any problem w the frog in the wind i just think the rough waters take away a bit from the action of the frog.  Maybe the wind will change direction this time around and help me out!

In heavy winds, many take advantage of the situation and throw spinnerbaits. I usually work angles, I do not cast directly into the wind, unless I have something heavy to throw. If I am using soft plastics, I will increase the weight, a little higher than I normally throw, and keep my rod tip down. I try to utilize cover like trees and such to shelter from the wind. Wind does making fishing challenging but its not impossible.

Dsidle the good news is, there are a lot of seasoned anglers here, that will give you some good advice on fishing in the wind.

Be a man. Superglue that ****

haha...funny you should say that. I have this medical glue which acts like superglue and skin. Burns like hell but creates the perfect shell. Worked like a charm.

Sooooo. Good and bad news. Good news first. Finger seemed fine with medical glue, and caught a 3lb bass in the dark.

Bad news is...didn't have my tape measurer :(

3lb at Night

I just wanted to share this picture with you all, I found it on a bass fishing page I follow on Instagram.

COULD YOU IMAGINE THIS!!! He beat his PB twice first with a 12lb 8oz and then 13lbs 5oz all in a 45 minute span. They caught 5 fish totaling 56lbs 6oz.!!!!! I mean that has to be some kind of record for 5 fish.

Just curious.  Why a red light?  Are bass thrown off by a white light?

The redlight is just enough to see your reel in front of you and the ground below you. The red allows you to keep your night vision, unlike white light which can take away your ability to focus in the dark for minutes.

As far as scaring the bass off, I do everything in my power to avoid detection by bass. They'd definitely see the white light.
