Can anyone point me in the direction of a crankbait that has a wide, enticing wobble, and doesn't go deeper than 5'? I have better luck with lures that produce a wide, hypnotic wobble, and I slow roll them to get the most out of the action. My preference would be a flat body crankbait or an enlongated crankbait as opposed to something designed like a strike king 1.0.

I'm looking at this baker lures suspending jerkbait, can't link to TWH, have to search the name on TWH to see it unfortunately.

To me, flat sided crankbaits and longer, shad style baits usually have a tighter wobble.  I like bulbous square bills for a wide wobble bait.

Agree with Jrob. You're asking for contradictory things. By their very nature, flat-sided crankbaits have tighter wobbles than round sided.

Alright, perhaps tying a flat sided crank with a swivel on would loosen the wobble? I think I read that on here somewhere.

I would never use a swivel on a crankbait.  You can use a snap if you want or tie direct to the split ring.  Either should allow the crankbait to swim freely.  My favorite shallow flat sided crankbaits are mostly wooden, aside from those, the Lucky Craft KJ Flat is a really good one.

Split ring is what I meant, not swivel, whoops.

I've never used one, but the Rapala Scatter Rap Minnow may be what you are looking for. Long thin balsa body with a more erratic wobble

That looks like a good lure, but, the lakes around here are heavy with weeds and hydrilla, so I'm kind of wary with that wide lip hanging up and bringing grass with me back to the shore. Only way to know would be to try, though. Good call.

That's a good idea.

Nope adding a split ring or clip adds a pivot point tightens up the wobble/wiggle.

Don't remember how deep a Norman Fat Boy dives but they have that wide wobble.

The Manns Minus -1 cranks have a heck of waddle to them. They only dive about a foot though.  They work great if you have weed growth that's a 1-2 feet from the surface and burning them on top.

I will second this. I love the Minus 1. Great lure that the fish around here seem to love.

Are you trying to throw cranks from the bank?  In my opinion, aside from some of the shallow divers mentioned above, the Minus - 1, BPS Egg and a few similar baits, throwing  cranks from the bank is more trouble than it is worth  You are just asking to drag in weeds and crap every cast.  I am not saying that it can't be done, just saying that more often than not it is a pain.   I think a spinnerbait is a better bank fishing option than a crank.

Now if you are fishing from a boat, my favorite crank that meets your criteria (wide wobble, dives to 5 feet or so), is a Timber Tiger DC8 or DC5, fished on 17 lb line.

Bandit Footloose series square bill.  Runs less than a foot and great for over weeds and through lily pads.

me thinks the SHAPE of the lure (round or flat) is less important than the action.  However, the shape does strongly influence the action.  As others have said, the Manns 1- has a great wobble and stays nice and shallow.  One of my fav's.

You guys are posting good lures. I'm looking at the manns minus 1. Any specific color? My lakes are dark stained green, only bluegill in them no shiners, but lures colored like shiners work too... *** seems to have different versions of the -1 all with different colors.

The -1 would work great because my lakes have heavy vegetation about a foot from the top of the water.

The one I have had the most luck with is the Matte Tiger. It is in the Minus 1 Elite Series that comes with the red hooks.

I fish a place here that is completely covered with weeds all summer but from now until late spring the weeds die back. I've also been looking at all the new shallow runners. Thanks for the idea of running them over top of it when I can. Might gain an extra month of fishing there. Now I gotta have some too.

I break free from the norm there and use braid on lipless baits. Both work well together in weeds. The braid doesn't stretch aiding in pulling the bait threw it, cuts it, and is easier to jerk free from broken off pieces of weed. Plus I can feel when a fish hits and no it's not the weeds loading it up. Most of the time you can just keep cranking when you hit it the weeds and it will pull free. If you jerk they will dive deeper into it.

The colder months will kill it back to just a few small clumps of weeds left here and there. And it's the only time I love the weeds there. The fish will be stacked in them at times.

When I hit a patch I make a mental note where it's located and how big. Next time I fish there. I will pick those patches apart. Il run around it, then high over it. Then lower till the bait just ticks the top over it. The start smashing into it. It's amazing how many fish will congregate on one little clump of weeds in the rite spot.
