papajoe222 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Just about everyone that ownes multiple reels has that one work horse that gets the most use. You know the one that's always in your hand or right there on the deck because you know that sooner or later, no mater what rod you have it on, you're going to use it. It's the one that gets multiple cleanings or line changes and during the off season it gets a little extra TLC. Never mind that it's a few seasons old, it's like an American Express card, you don't leave home without it. Mine's a TD Advantage 153HST It's heavier and larger than almost all my other reels, but it performs flawlessly season after season. What's yours? 1 Quote
0119 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 An old Ambassadeur 2500 that always has a Sam Griffin custom Lil' Richard tied to it. Quote

I have a HSTA that I absolutely love. Even though it is wide, it palms nicely. My work horse reels are Zillions and E Series Curados. If I had to choose one reel though, it would be a Daiwa Fuego. It gets used on just about every trip. Quote
LMB ANGLER Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 i agree with 0119. ambassadeur been around probably more than a lot of baitcasters today. they are extremely reliable, and they been around for ever, people rely on them. if you want a new type of reel then get the pro qualifier, those are alot of peoples choice today, but if your oldschool like me then get the ambassadeur 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 chronarch 51mg. i'll never let this die. Quote
thehooligan Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 My core 51, definitely a workhorse. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 Didn't I just answer this questioned framed slightly different? "What is your favorite reel?" If it is a reel you grab all the time, then it must be your favorite reel. Quote
SJex Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 My Core 50mg7 and a Scorpion 1000 get the bulk of the work. Quote
bmlum415 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 For me its equal between my shimano core 51 and 101, can't wait to see what my metanium can do Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 Personally I prefer my Fuegos to my Sols. Since you are splitting the field in two, my favorite reel...period...would be my Purple Alphas while my favorite workhorse reel would be my 50th Anniversary Zillion. However, for a workhorse reel I wouldn't have to be so careful with (can't scratch that 50th ), I prefer my older model Cabela's Prodigy....which if I understand correctly, is very similar to your TDA. War Eagle 44 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 This is an easy one for me, it's a tie between my 4 Citica E's and my Chronarch B. I fish all 5 of these reels hard and they never let me down. I have tons of other, and higher priced in most cases, gear but these are the reels I turn to trip after trip. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 Every reel I own is a workhorse, no real favorites just take the right reel and rods for the target species and areas I'm fishing. Wouldn't be using the same outfits offshore, beach, jetties and freshwater, different set ups for each. Quote

In terms of sheer longevity, I have an old Abu 4600C that I've thrown crankbaits with since I bought it new in the mid 80s. I guess that would be my "workhorse". Tom Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 The Wal-Mart quantum spinning reel with my Shakespeare 6' black beauty rod that caught my PB of 10# with. I should have it bronzed. My Excalibur silver threat 8lb test did its thing that morning. This post should be about the line we use after all its the weakest link in our rod setup. Excalibur did me right on that morning. It's awesome when a plan comes together. Every time I caught decent fish or had even many dinks I purchased more fishing lures. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 one of my Lew's Team Gold's on a 7' Med. or MH for Walleye and Bass, or the Lew'sSuper Duty when I'm after Pike Muskie and Salmon. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 Most of my reels that are more than 8 years old are in the "retired" category. I have a couple of Calcutta reels that were new 15 years ago that are still on the traveling team and see regular duty. This past year, my Curado 50's have seen the most use, basically because this year I've focused mostly on jika rig fishing & bubba drop shot fishing. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 All my reels are workhorses, if they hadn´t earned the title they wouldn´t be around. As for being the oldest those ABU XLT Plus Series are older the ones, followed by those Curados B. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 Every reel I own.. As stated if they hadn't earned the place I wouldn't use them... Quote
