What is jug fishing?

It's a form of fishing involving a line hanging off something that floats and is left on the water for a period of time. It's illegal in some places, it's legal where I live. Just be wary.

And it appears the link is broken again, we'll try a different survey website because we're having a lot of issues.

There is no sport in jug fishing. I see people mainly fishing for catfish this way, and everything they catch they eat. It reminds me of when I was in Florida all those crab traps on the river. Most people use milk jugs with a line hanging off of it. Makes the waters look real good with milk jugs floating on the water. It's just my opinion but I think it should be outlawed.

Jug fishing is for catfish.  Why come to a bass fishing website to conduct your survey? :headscratch:

Sorry, Mike. It won't happen again.

There is an "other fish" forum you could post it under. Lots of guys on here catfish as well as bass fish, I'm sure you'd get some input there. I catfish fairly often, and jug fishing is legal here as well as most every state close by, just not my deal.

Using a milk jug as a float with a glow light inside is a method used for shark fishing at night.

There are many people that jug fish for cats on my home lake where most bass fish.  They occasionally catch a striper, a LM or SM also.  It is legal here but it is fast declining.  You do not see as many jugs as you did 5 years ago.

In fact last year I took my grandson jug fishing as we caught 4 bluegill and set out 4 milk jugs.  Next morning we retrieved them and had caught 3 nice cats.  He enjoyed it but has never ask to do it again.  As was said before there is not as much sport to it as catching them on a rod and reel.
