paulkuan Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Hello everyone, After a long reflection about my next purchase, I decided to point me to a MH or H rod whose goal is to scrape the bottom in search of pike using plastic. Its use is essentially a float tube I need a rod not exceeding 7 "with a short heel. I thought: - New Cumara MH Xtra fast - MH fast aetos - Powell Heavy EF 704 - Phenix Recon 2 Heavy Fast What do you think? Thks beforehand Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted October 29, 2013 Super User Posted October 29, 2013 I'll be honest with you, I have really liked the last 2 lines of the Fenwick rods, the ET smallmouth and the Aetos, I haven't had any experience with the new Cumara but I know based on the other rods from Shimano including the other Cumara that you will have to go with a heavy power for what you want to do, and I'm thinking that the new Cumara uses the Cumulus blank, if that is the case then that may even be too light. The Powell would be good as would the Aetos in MH and the only knock on the Recon 2 series is that the actions are still slower than what the rod lists which could be a benefit if using a super line. I know Phenix made the fast actions truer than the first generation but they are still slower than most other fast actions so if you are using a copoly or flouro I would say you either go with the Aetos or the Powell but the Fenwick MH has a lot of power in a light package that you could use without having to step up to a heavy power rod but I am biased as I have 5 Fenwick rods now. LMB ANGLER Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 i think the shimano cumara is one of the best rods out right now. the cumara would work perfectly fine for you application. my second choice would be aetos. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted October 29, 2013 Super User Posted October 29, 2013 I'm thinking that the new Cumara uses the Cumulus blank, if that is the case then that may even be too light. It isn't the same "blank as Cumulus" but it is a HM blank, just uses a different resin is what I think the difference is. Course I'm no expert regarding all that mumbo jumbo! But it isn't the same "blank" that I am sure. I haven't pulled the trigger on the latest Cumara as I prefer the previous Gen Cumara, I hear mixed reviews from various people. Hooligan on this board thinks they are great rods when reading his reviews, others don't like the new guides..etc. I would recommend the Aetos over the Cumara new gen simply because I have experience using the former. If you said an old gen Cumara I'd probably say get that one over the Aetos, especially since you can buy them way lower than retail (hard to find since they are discontinued). Whatever you go with, I would look at the lure ratings to figure out which power/action you want to buy for what you are doing. Quote
paulkuan Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 Thank you gentlemen, I already have an old generation is Cumara it is true that this is the bomb. It is a fast MH 3/4 oz and I would like a cane giving me close enough sensations may actually going up 1oz. And it's true that I really like Aetos be it aesthetically. I have also wanted to know if it's power range is real? Quote

To me it is the similar to the Cumara, but the Cumara is more crisp..the best description I can say here, but they are almost the same feel fishing. I am not sure about the newer Cumara though. Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 31, 2013 Super User Posted October 31, 2013 It must be a great feeling to have a "complete" rod arsenal. My rod arsenal count would be somewhere upwards of 40 and it is no where near "complete" We're just talking bass fishing. If the subject becomes "multi species", then there are some more rigs that must be considered. Quite a bit of my lighter bass tackle can substitute for walleye fishing. But then there is drift fishing for trout on Taneycomo, Pond/ lake catfishing gear. MO river catfishing gear. . .fly rods . . . I personally haven't gotten into snagging gear for spoonbills, but there is another gear area to cover. I know several crappie fishermen, who are as anal about their crappie gear as I am about bass gear. 20 different rods to cover different aspects of crappie fishing isn't out of line. . . . .and then you have to consider all the reels that are totally necessary for all these rods, some overlap is allowed . . . . . I'm just trying to help, so I hope I've helped define what is and what ain't a rod arsenal. Quote
paulkuan Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 We agree on the definition to the idea of arsenal. I complête gradually I think I would never be the end. Modestly he is to have a set which covers cane fishing exclusively in plastic but several types of fish (pike, zander, perch). Quote
