Does anyone know how bass pro handles their rod/reel warranty. I'm interested in the PQ and Caronlite combo but I can't find any warranty info on their website. Anybody know how they handle damage claims or returns?

Most have a one year warranty swap out. They offer you a 3 year warranty for a fee at checkout.

they have told me before that if you return it with receipt even if out of warranty, they can be nice enough to give you a new one... my local bps told me that.

If you're that worried that a product will break that warranty policy plays heavily into a buying decision you're likely not making a good investment. I'm not saying the PQ is not a good investment, it sure is, just pointing out that good companies stand behind their offerings or aren't around long. No need to stress over fine print.

This is true, but depends on the manager at said BPS.

I was told that if Johnny Morris' name is on the product, BPS will warrant it past the stated warranty. This was from two different managers of BPS fishing departments.

Regardless, I decided that it wasn't worth it (warranty-wise) as what if those managers quit/retired/fired and the new one(s) refused to honor spoken words of their predecessors.

I actually asked BPS if I could get that in writing. Answer: no. My response, buy said items from other company with warranty in writing. If warranty matters, consider DVT's words.

I appreciate the replies. It's not that I'm so worried about their product malfunctioning or breaking. Quite the opposite actually as I haven't seen many negative reviews about BPS equipment. However, things happen, and gear gets damaged. Regardless of the manufacturer I buy from, I want to know that they stand behind their products, and to what extent. Most of the time I can find warranty information on a company's website, but I couldn't do that at basspro.com. Just wanted to know if their warranty was much different from other companies.

Sure, BPS makes some great products. I was curious, as you are, but when I couldn't confirm from BPS -- in writing -- what the managers said was "policy" I got concerned. BPS managers can say anything they want. But if that's the case, why doesn't the company come right out and spell it out for us.

I guess they actually do for many products, but with a wink and a nod the warranty is up to the manager-on-duty.

So lesson here, get to know the manager of the fishing department!! LOL. I know the one at my BPS, but mainly cuz he's a stand-up dude and has some great fishing advice.

That is exactly what I was wondering. I guess I'll have to make the trip up to bass pro and ask in person. Like you said earlier, though, if management changes, the warranty could do so just as quickly. Shaky deal right there.

Remember you can purchase an extended warranty pretty cheap with them. 3-4 years on a rod or reel is a pretty good warranty for them.

Some of the lower quality BP reels don't get the best of all reviews, but the higher end models get pretty good reviews. The PQ for one, gets recommended here by Shimano, Diawa, ABU etc guys all the time for the best reel in the 80-100 dollar mark.

I've been told the same by MGR's there about certain customers or products they will extend it out further, but some do and some don't.

If I were you I would just buy it and not worry about the warranty. If something goes wrong with either one of them they'll most likely just exchange it for you. But honestly that is a fantastic combo (have 4 myself) and you shouldn't worry about it.

Like some have said it depends on the store and the manager, but I think generally BPS is pretty good about taking back items if it's their brand. Last year I took a graphite series and tourney special casting rod (hardly used) back after about a year and a half with no receipt and they gave me store credit for both of them, almost enough to pay for a new carbonlite.

my local BPS (manteca, CA) is a stickler. i brought back a BPS prolite finesse rod that had the tip of the trigger break off by only my finger. it was purchased online 15 months prior. the manager said he was "bending over backward" for me but there was nothing he could do.  :mad10:

if you have an Academy sports get your rods/reels from them! LIFETIME warranty... no receipt needed (only if you want to get your money back). Other than that you bring in your broken rod/reel and they will give you the $$ in store credit to purchase whatever you want. IMO you can't beat that at all. Hell if you wanted to try out a new rod/reel you could just take your old one there and use that money towards a new one. I love Academy Sports.

They are building a BPS basically behind my house that is suppose to be the 4th biggest attraction in FL equipped with a 12 acre managed lake! Can't wait for that but still Academy will get my $$ when purchasing a rod/reel for the best warranty in the business... no I don't work for them lol

Last year the levelwind stopped moving on my oldest PQ (5 years) so i took it to basspro to for repair. I told the guy in the reel department how old it was and what it was doing. He didnt know much about the warranty or repairs and basicly to send it in and see.

I was a little skeptical but sent it in anyway. I got a phone call about 2 weeks later from the service department. They repaired my reel under warranty and cleaned/lubed it. All it cost me was a few bucks for shipping.

I think they replaced a pawl and a bushing, i cant remember.

Needless to say i was impressed. :respect-059:
