Super User retiredbosn Posted October 28, 2013 Super User Posted October 28, 2013 At first I thought this has to be a joke, but for $324.99 PETA is selling surveillance drones to its members under the auspice of keeping an eye on outdoorsmen. The plan is to start a new hobby of hunter and fisher watching!! To see how cruelly we treat nature....personally I think the drones would make for challenging target practice, but be careful because some state agency are using them too. http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/peta-launches-drone-fleet-advocates-hunter-watching/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Oct%2028%202013%20Daily%20Newswire%20(1)&utm_content= Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 28, 2013 Super User Posted October 28, 2013 Not being a PETA member of any plans of joining the organization, I'm looking at the use of drones as being positive. I'm sure many people have read news articles and seen documentaries on TV depicting poaching and other illegal acts. Being a fisherman I don't care how many wardens are hiding in the bushes or a drone up in the sky, as I'm doing everything legal with nothing to hide. Why would someone be fearful of getting caught on "candid camera" if they are obeying the law, it's the ones breaking the law with the worries. I've seen many posts on this site alone that view poaching and illegal acts in a very negative way, I would think what ever methods are employed and if were successful would be welcomed by outdoorsmen. Yes I do think PETA goes overboard it some areas, but this one has piqued my interest. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted October 28, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 28, 2013 I have no problem with law enforcement watching, I do however have problems with another private citizen spying on me. Its a basic violation of privacy, and the footage PETA gathers will be used to further their radical policies. I don't think they will air footage that shows humane treatment, rather ones that show poorly placed shots, or gut hooked fish that end up as floaters because they are not legal size to keep. I've had more than one small bass take a buzbait hook to the brain and die instantly, on catch and release lake only. Illegal to keep immoral to let waste Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 28, 2013 Super User Posted October 28, 2013 They look like an easy target. 3 Quote

Super User Root beer Posted October 28, 2013 Super User Posted October 28, 2013 Shooting a drone may not be covered under the first amendment, but pretty sure shooting the bird is... Quote

CayMar Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I can't afford a go pro at this time so this sounds like an awesome way to get some fishing footage. Will someone please tell Peta that I'm a poacher and I will be fishing on the Hooch Saturday morning? Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted October 28, 2013 Super User Posted October 28, 2013 LMAO instead of using drones to "spy" on fishermen and hunters why don't they give these drones to local law enforcement in high crime areas to monitor REAL CRIME lol 5 Quote
Brian Needham Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Can't wait to fire on one of them. Hope it says 'peta' real big on it so I know for sure I think as long as it does not say Goodyear on the side , its fair game. 1 Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted October 29, 2013 Super User Posted October 29, 2013 don't understand how this wouldn't fall into the game & fish harassment laws...how could a drone not disturb someone hunting especially? part of the minnesota statute; I'm equal opportunity. I will gladly separate the person running the drone from their computer. I mean heaven forbid my .308 or .338 were to over penetrate their lap top and splash into their chest. I figure if a .338 is good enough to go through body armor or veichle at distance. A laptop or car door shouldn't do much to stop it. Glad we don't have those whack jobs in Alabama. They know some redneck will nail them to the wall just as fast as a deer head. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 29, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 29, 2013 Ok guys, take your beer goggles off. Let's stop the talk about pointing a weapon at and/or firing said weapon at a person. Let's take it down a notch. btw - that garbage that comes from PETA is designed to ruffle your feathers and get under your skin. Don't let them win. This is just hot air and hype designed to get them attention. Nothing more than that. Let it go and don't give them the gratification. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 29, 2013 Global Moderator Posted October 29, 2013 In Kansas it's illegal to harass any person engaged in a lawful hunting or fishing trip. I think I'd be feeling real harassed if I had someone buzzing me with one of those, and I hurt my neck looking up at it every time it buzzed by Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 29, 2013 Super User Posted October 29, 2013 If I see them in Virginia I will definitely get a shot gun and have some fun. If I wanted others to see me relieve myself off the side of the boat I would motor to a busy ramp and take a leak in front of everyone. Of course, if the PETA women see me than I have another problem with them chasing after me for fun and games so I will have to take two paper bags with me to put over the PETA women's heads in case the one on top one tares. Wouldn't it be funny if one of the PETA drones crashes and starts a big forest fire? That would be a sensational law suit by the state and any others that have property damage or bodily injuries. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 29, 2013 Super User Posted October 29, 2013 I'd probably call the GW, or the sheriff and report a UFO in the woods. Quote
