Senkos catch fish....period.

Hey all,

Im sure everyone knows this already, but I thought this was kinda funny. Im fishing at my little retention pond (2 acres) and I can see this nice big bass about 20 feet off the shore. Hes just hanging out in about a 10 ft radius. Im thinking jackpot!! So I flip a spinnerbait at him, try a few different retrives, he doesnt budge. Switch to a frog. Nothing. Shallow crank. Nothing. Jig with 8" worm. Nope. Soft lizard rigged weightless. Still doesnt want it.

This guy walks up who lives a couple houses down and says "I see you tryng to get that big bass, try this."

4" Senko wacky rigged.

Dropped it right in front of him and BAM!! He hits it!!!

Turned out he wasnt as big as I thought, kinda skinny, but still a 3.5lber.

As a newbie, it always amazes me when a more experienced bass fisherman walks up and "seems" to have it all figured out. I guess the point of the story is that Senkos work and to keep an open mind when a more experienced fisherman gives you advice. Dont be too proud to listen to other guys and use some of the knowledge that they are willing to pass along.

It may have been the Senko.  Then again, you tried an 8" worm and got nothing.  All the baits you mentioned are very large compared to a 4" Senko.

There are times when smaller, even tiny, is better.  In this case, don't overlook that size does indeed sometime matter.

I agree with Fishing Rhino that it doesn't necessarily mean it was the Senko. That fish might have just been attracted by the action of a wacky-rigged bait and any number of soft plastics that had been offered at the same time probably would have caught that fish.

It definitely might have hit something other than a Senko, but they do work and have their time and place.

I once followed a group of large bass around the shoreline of my home lake for about 1/2 hour, throwing everything I could think of at them, including a t-rigged senko. The second I tossed a wacky rigged senko in front of them they stopped and the big one of the bunch shot out and ate it. Wacky rigged senkos are magic.

I've seen a few tank demos at Bass Pro where they do a seminar and throw about 8-10 different baits through the tank and the only 2 baits I've seen that get a hit from every bass in the tank and multiple hits by most of them after the bait is pulled out of their mouth are 1-weightless Senkos and 2 - Tubes, something about that erratic action on the fall just makes them react.

I got a Senko, and put it on a cheezy bait, do you think it'll work?????My guess is ..May-be?? But what do I know, right.

I heard that sometimes stores that sell fishing gear will have senkos.  What color should I get?  Also, how much is too much to pay for a bag of senkos?

I think any stick style bait wacky rigged will work. I like using El Grande Hatch Match Sticks. When it gets real tough try one of Al Winco's creek wacky worms.
