NOLERSWAMP Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I'm fishing a spot tomorrow that has a consistent 2 to 3 pound average and bigger fish that have been caught in the past. It has a long dam on it and the dam is deep and gradually shallows to other end. I plan on starting with an early morn zara spook or buzz, then maybe t rig 6 inch finesse zoom/yum worms, a colorado white/char spinnerbait, and maybe a lipless crank. The water is pretty shallow right now. Maybe 8 or 9 feet at dam. There's been some good fish caught on a lizard....I was wondering if anyone had any other tricks up their sleeve they would call a "big bass bait". I realize that big bass will hit four inch worms or the "small stuff" also, but just wonderin if someone had somn that might get that big one to bite. Quote
curls00 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Jig-n-pig. Hop it in small hops on bottom -- if it doesn't get smacked on the way down! I really like Booyah Boo-jigs with a YUM chunk trailer. See my avater for a 5 lb'er that fell for this combo last weekend. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 If you know they are there try a jig tipped with a Rage Tail craw. I has consistently caught larger Bass when we know they are holding on a spot. My partner throws cranks and will catch them but I will always catch the largest fish with a jig. Never ignore the Jig. NOLERSWAMP Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Yeah my buddy lives and dies by the jig ha ha. I'm going to tie one on tomorrow. I've never rigged with a rage tail craw, so I'm going to do that. I've been riggin with zoom chunks. Thanks for the suggestions. I will def have this tied on tomorrow. Thank you guys for that. Anyone else? Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 24, 2010 Super User Posted September 24, 2010 1/2-3/4 oz jig dressed with brush hog as trailer. Quote
OHIO Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 6-8 am: Black buzzbait. IMO it's a big fish bait no matter where you are. 8-10 am: White spinnerbait or one that matches bait fish in the lake. Rest of the day: Weightless T-rigged senko or a jig paired with chigger craw. Quote

KC Bass Fanatic Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Another vote for jig/pig. The rage craw is great when the fish aren't picky. If you aren't getting bit with the rage craw go to a trailer like the zoom chunk with less action. t-rigged regular size brush hogs always catch quality fish for me as well under any conditions. NOLERSWAMP Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Good deal. I do have brush hogs on deck for sure Another vote for jig/pig. The rage craw is great when the fish aren't picky. BassThumb Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I like large spinnerbaits and heavy jigs with large plastic trailers that displace a lot of water. Quote
backwater4 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 A jig and a jig and buzzbait and a jig and did I mention a jig. But seriously: jig spook buzzbait brush hog hula grub on a football head Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted September 24, 2010 Super User Posted September 24, 2010 A well known big bass bait is a Large straight tailed worm, preferrably black. Mojo rigged(light carolina) worked very slow. Quote
guitarkid Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 booyah bed bug jig with mad man craw trailor. Preferably is black and blue. -gk Quote

NOLERSWAMP Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 Ok, went today and fished primarily a jig with a rage craw trailer. First fish of the day got hung under a log, came up and jump (my eyes lit up) and he took a dive down and broke me off....7 lb range. I was sick, however i finished up with several 2's, a 3.4, and a 4.8. So I'm convinced that jig trailer stirrin up so much water really helped my case. Thanks for the input. The rage was a big pick up, but dang i went through the whole pack and they're not cheap. Any body know of another trailer that may be cheaper that stirs up water like the rage craw? I love the diving action it has trailing that jig. Another vote for jig/pig. The rage craw is great when the fish aren't picky. Fat-G Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 For me it's soft plastics, jigs, and swimbaits. Rage Craws Jig/Rage Craw Mattlures Baby Bass Quote

Super User bilgerat Posted September 26, 2010 Super User Posted September 26, 2010 This is the time of year for these. I'd go with anything 5" or larger: http://www.lunkercity.com/ff.html Go with a 4/0 to 5/0 ewg hook with the gap slightly opened with pliers to greatly improve hooksets. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 26, 2010 Super User Posted September 26, 2010 I like these.. Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted September 26, 2010 Super User Posted September 26, 2010 If I'm specifically targeting larger fish with larger baits I'll generally go with the following: Jig with a GYCB Flapping Hog or a Rage Lobster trailer Big/Bulky soft plastics (Large worms/lizards/creatures) Swimbaits Live shiners (although thats almost cheating) Quote
