bryand82487 Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 So I was watching a fishing video today on youtube where this guy was killing smallmouth on a hot pink rapala x rap 8. It got me wondering in what conditions would you throw this color in? What does it actually mimic? Quote
Nine Miler Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 X-Raps are great in the spring. I get a lot of hits on that same lure. As it gets a litter warmer, slow down a bit and try these. http://www.***.com/Yamamoto_Senko/descpage-YAS.html#multiview Quote
bryand82487 Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 So you wouldn't suggest X Raps as a fall bait? Quote

Nine Miler Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 So you wouldn't suggest X Raps as a fall bait? Yes, fall too. As it cools down, the X-Raps, Pointers and lipless baits come back out, and the jigs, tubes, worms, drop shot baits, etc. get packed up. I am not saying those don't work, I just think fishing moving baits is more fun for smallmouth. Quote

Owasco Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 My Brother-in-law (AKA: Fishing buddy #2) was using a hot pink POP-R over the weekend and was just killing Large-mouths in both a a small local pond and then again on Sandy Pond on the east coast of Lake Ontario. He was hesitant to use it at first because it was his wife's and she bought it because it was a "pretty" color. He eventually lost the lure because he refuses to use more than 8# test and casted it into a tree limb Now he is adamantly trying to find another hot pink POP-R. I tried to explain that color usually doesn't matter when it comes to top water but he insists. I guess that is where his confidence is right now, so I guess for him hot pink POP-R's are the best. But I plan on it this year. My bro-in-law has a camper on the lake about 2 minutes away so I'll get to this year. I've heard of people actually catching their limit (50/day) up there. Where in the lake do you go to catch the perch? Near the island or just anywhere? Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted September 16, 2010 Super User Posted September 16, 2010 Seems to me, once upon a time, there was "hot pink" craze. Early to mid 90's - something like that. Pink poppers, pink cranks, pink worms, pink spinnerbaits, pink everything. One year in their catalog, BPS has 2 or 3 pages of just pink stuff that you could get. Like most crazes, it came and went. That being said, I still have a bag of pink & pink & orange stickos (BPS version of Senko) that I throw from time to time - primarily lightly stained to stained water. I probably have a pack of pink sluggos somewhere, not in my boat, probably in my gear shed somewhere. I can recall that bait working very well on a couple of early spring trips, years ago. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 16, 2010 Super User Posted September 16, 2010 Pink doesn't work. Neither does orange. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted September 17, 2010 Super User Posted September 17, 2010 I caught three tonight throwing one of these. Quote
MMan16 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Throwing pink seems to be one of those things you do on heavy pressured waters. I got some pick zeros and that's when I bring them out. Its just something different that I think gets the fish going. Quote
1234567 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I've been trying to get my hands on a couple of those 316 freestyle shads forever now!! I'll buy one from anyone who doesn't use them, heard there not that great anyways! Looking for lavendar and white shad in the slow sink. Quote

kikstand454 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 the only place i seem to have any luck with pink is muddy flowing rivers with a pink paddle tail. *shrug* i do really well with pink zeros and trick worms in saltwater. speckled trout are stupid for them in dirty water. Quote
maineman Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Hot pink works well in Maine for smallmouths. Just don,t let your fishing partner see you use it till you have a fish on or the jokes will never end! : ;D : Quote
