DaveT63 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I am currently using a spinning setup to throw spinnerbaits. I think I have 30lb Suffix 832 braid on the reel. I get a lot of noise during the retrieve. Should I switch to mono to get rid of the noise? How does the noise impact fishing? Thanks, Dave Quote
LMB ANGLER Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 you should stay with braid, if the braid your using makes alot of noise, than get a quieter braid, but switching to mono with impact your hook ratios and casting distance. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted October 25, 2013 Super User Posted October 25, 2013 Noise is only a nuisance to the angler...you will get used to it. Although, I use braid on 90% of my setups and I don't get this horrible noise problem many complain about. Perhaps I'm just used to it. Quote

Thanks, Dave impacts fishing in that it impacts your hearing/thought process.... that's about it. I'd stick with it, if anything trial different brands/sizes to see what works best and what you can deal with Quote
John G Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I got my rid of the braid noise and the constant tangling around the eyes by stripping the last bit of Power Pro off the last reel that had it on and throwing it away. Berkley Big Game and Yo Zuri Hybrid from now on. Quote
Jaheff Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 There's almost no other sound i'd like to hear when fishing, then a fish pulling drag and the noise of braid through the guides! I love that sound. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted October 25, 2013 Super User Posted October 25, 2013 Use braid your going to get the noise. No way around it. The noise does not affect your fishing. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Sufix 832 is all I use the benefit's well outweigh the noise, I would never recommend another braid,,,,,probably why you don't have any of the hassles others complain about with braid! Keep it, you'll be glad you did! 1 Quote
MediumHeavy Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Put some Power Pro Super Slick 8 in 20lb on your reel and problem solved. It's the quietest braid I've ever used. Even the 50lb I have on some casting reels is pretty quiet compared to other braids. 832 is quieter than most, but if it bothers you, try the PPS8S. The noise doesn't really have an effect on your fishing that I'm aware of. I don't mind the sound. As far as tangling around the eyes and stuff, it can be really annoying but the benefits of braid outweigh the hassles. I tried spooling up a casting reel with fluoro recently and it had been a while. I couldn't believe the difference. I took it off later that day. Quote
Mxtaylor Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Another vote for the Power Pro Super Slick. I run 30lb on my spinning setup and no noise. Quote
bass1980 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Time to switch to Baitcast! Kidding. I do have to admit I love the noise of braids when I'm retrieving a hog though. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 26, 2013 Super User Posted October 26, 2013 PP slick is the quietest and smoothest I've used and wind knots pull thru easier due to the slickness. I don't recommend or condemn any line, find what you like, your'e the one doing the fishing. When using any others braids I don't find the noise issue to be bothersome, make sure your line roller is working properly. Quote
