Brent1981 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Ok I am a Lew's fan but I broke down and bought a Tatula today to try out the T-wing system...Anyone have any thoughts on these reals or warnings. I tried to find some reviews on here but didnt see any Quote
LMB ANGLER Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I think the t-wing system is neat. it looks cool. t-wing helps for accuracy and casting far. the best thing of all is that is very versatile because since the reel opens up while casting, light lures can be thrown further now without alot of backlashes. Super User rippin-lips Posted October 25, 2013 Super User Posted October 25, 2013 Tackle tour did a review on it. Search for it on google. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Low profile reels use relatively narrow spools so the angle of the line thru the worm gear guide isn't severe enough to affect casting in any noticeable way IMO. Daiwa makes quality reels but as far the T wing goes I can take it or leave it. Quote
MO_LMB Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I own one, I'm still breaking it in. It has a very smooth casting and reeling system. It almost feels like you are casting/reeeling in nothing but next thing you know your lure is 20 yards away. I have yet to find my "sweetspot" on the settings though like I have on my Citica. I think I'm getting close, just not there yet, Probably about another week and I should have it dialed in. Overall I think it is a nice reel, feels very well constructed, and to me the additional weight some people complain about I don't even notice. As for the T-Wing, it might give you a couple extra yards, but nothing drastically noticeable. Quote

You're thinking of the Gen 1 T-wing system. The Tatula does not open up, rather the T-wing guide rotates back to let the line flow unrestricted. As DVT said, it's neat, but low mass spool with good bearings casts light baits just as well. 1 Quote
sarcazmo Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I handled one the other day and walked away impressed. Very nice feeling reel. Would like to handle a type-r before I purchase one. I did find it a little wide. Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I think the t-wing system is neat. It looks cool. The t-wing helps for accuracy and casting far. The best thing of all is that it is very versatile because the reel opens up while casting. Light lures can be thrown further now without a lot of backlashes. The line guide does not impact the accuracy at ALL. Accuracy has to do with the rod, the person casting, and the spool tension knob (if it is too tight the angle that the lure goes in is effected because the spool is delayed for a very small amount of time).. Also, the reel doesn't open up. The line guide flips over to a different angle when the thumb bar is pressed. This reel is not really meant for light lures either. It has a rather large line capacity at 120 yards of 14 lb. Definitely not a finesse reel. A pixy will outcast this reel with a 1/8 - 1/4 oz by a mile. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted October 26, 2013 Super User Posted October 26, 2013 The reels, just ok. The Tatula rod? Unbelievable for the price. Quote
Brent1981 Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Im not sure why my post says I bought the reel today..lol..cell phone must have changed it. I actually bought thereel last week. ive used it a few times now and so far I am very impressed. Big N is right though, not really a finesse reel but I have a core for that. More so concerned about the breaking. Havent had alot of experience with magforce cause im used to centrifugal brakes. It seems ok though. No problem with backlash even in hard wind Quote
Brent1981 Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 I wanted to try the rod but gander mountain didnt have one in stock Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 26, 2013 Super User Posted October 26, 2013 The reels, just ok. The Tatula rod? Unbelievable for the price.Have you seen the R? How would you compare it to a Zillion? Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted October 26, 2013 Super User Posted October 26, 2013 I am currently awaiting for my Type-R to show up at my door. Release date is somewhere around the end of November. Supposed to be a different animal than the regular Tatula. Better breaks, bearings, drag star, spool, and some other miss stuff. Yes, I purchased a Daiwa, got a killer deal, lets see how good it really is. Quote

5fishlimit Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I got to hold one at my local tackle shop, and I don't see any issues with the size of the reel. It seems like a really nice product. The type-r specs seem like it will put it right in line with the basic zillion, but I may be way off on that. I had also heard that the rods are amazing for the price as mentioned above. I think Daiwa is doing the right thing with this new lineup. Quote
Brent1981 Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Keep us posted on the type r when u get it. I would really like to know how how much better it is because the regular tatula is super smooth. If the type r has better bearings then I am definately switching to Diawa Quote
Brent1981 Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Lol..yea..sorry I meant to copy ur post about waiting on ur type r. I would like to hear ur review on it when u get it so I can decide if I need one or not..lol Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted October 26, 2013 Super User Posted October 26, 2013 Have you seen the R? How would you compare it to a Zillion? The Type R is a different beast altogether. I think that for the money, it's going to be a very good reel in terms of both function and value. The bearings are supposed to be the same as those used in the Steez, and the braking is supposed to be much more relaxed. While I've spent very little time with the reel. I'm impressed with it thus far. Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Do you think the tatula will gradually raise in price in the next few years like the zillion and steez? Quote
Brent1981 Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 Im honestly shocked that they are as cheap as they are right now Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 27, 2013 Super User Posted October 27, 2013 Do you think the tatula will gradually raise in price in the next few years like the zillion and steez? Do you think the price of gas or bread and milk will raise in the next few years? If the reel is still in production, then the price will be higher. Quote
Got1Fishing Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 There is already another thread on the Tatula reels somewhere. I bought one a couple of weeks ago and I love it for the price. I'm in college and own a Chronarch, Tatula, and Revo SX. I wish I could afford all Chronarch or just nicer reels altogether, but i can't afford it now. I will say I love the Tatula much more than my Revo SX, and it's close to performing like the Chronarch. The things I'm most impressed with are: - Air Rotation: it just feels so smooth, I'm in love with it. - I-Shape Handle Knobs: it just feels nice in your hand, and feels like it gives you more leverage (whether it actually does who knows) I like the Magforce-Z Cast Control more than what's on my Revo SX, but not more than what's on the Chronarch. Yes they are two different brake systems, but I'm just being broad here. Quote
