CAbassboy Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 So i bought a bass pro shops pro qualifier 6:4:1 with money that i got from my birthday and money i saved up and i have had that reel for a while. IT IS GREAT. i love the braking system witch i currently have them both set at zero and i can cast my Rat-L-Trap a mile and not even get a single tangle or overlap. i definitely reccomend buying it. for 99.99 it is one of the best reels on the market from my eye. My friend also out of the blue took me and got me a shimano crucial crainkbait rod for my birthday, i absolutely love it. It is so light and sensitive and it has a great action. not to mention the black matches the silver of the reel amolst pefectly. so guys tell me what you got and how much you love it. weather it be spinning or baitcast tell me! i would love to get new reel/rod ideas for future purchases and i am pretty sure other people would to! Super User Felix77 Posted October 24, 2013 Super User Posted October 24, 2013 Depends on what you like to do ... if this is your only rod then my next purchase would be a spinning rod for finesse applications. 7' MF would be my suggestion. Quote

baluga Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Conquest 50 on Cumara 6'3" Medium. Love this combo for finesse casting small hardbait 1/4oz - 1/2 Oz. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted October 24, 2013 Super User Posted October 24, 2013 You are suggesting an $800.00+ combo for a 15 yr. old????....lol. Hootie 1 Quote
John G Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 You are suggesting an $800.00+ combo for a 15 yr. old????....lol. Hootie A $800.00 combo isn't that far fetched for a kid living at home if he has a minimum wage job. I started out at $3.45 per hour bagging groceries in 85. The kids are all making over $7.00 per hour now. Quote

MichiganFishing1997 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 $800 on a single combo at my age? HA! I paid 900 for my boat and two motors.. I find a balanced budget with combos that cost less than half that is plenty. Quote
Arv Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Favorite set ups right now are probably my Daiwa Fuego spinning rod (6'10 M/XF)/Daiwa Tierra 2500 set up or my Powell Endurance 723CEF/Lews TP (7:1) set up. Between the two I can cover basically everything I fish. My next set up will probably be a swimbait rig. Quote

John G Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 BTW, I do have a $800.00 combo and it's not my favorite. That combo is a Loomis MBR783 GLX with a Shimano Conquest 100. My favorite combo right now is a Loomis MBR844 IMX with a Shimano Citica 200E. I just put a Hawgtech Handle on the Citica and the only thing that would make that combo any sweeter than it already is, is that I should have bought the rod on eBay instead of paying full retail price at a dealer. I bought the rod new, the reel used in excellent condition and added the new handle. I have just a tad over $400.00 invested. Quote

CAbassboy Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 The way you say this is very ignorant. Where do you get 800 dollars from. Rod is 159.99 and the reel is 99.99 and its my most expensive ok. Takes me more that a year to save up that much so please don't say that I have no priorities and will be homeless. Quote
CAbassboy Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 And to the others thanks for the advice on the spinning but I already have one havab Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 24, 2013 Super User Posted October 24, 2013 so guys tell me what you got and how much you love i I don't love my gear, I love my wife. Of course I like the combos I have or I wouldn't have them. Point is it doesn't matter what others like, it's what would be comfortable in your hands. Quote

Takes me more that a year to save up that much so please don't say that I have no priorities and will be homeless. The $800 was in reference to another poster's Cumara/Conquest 50 combo. Though $800 is high even for that. Secondhand, you can do $600 easy. I raid the flea market on a regular basis and one of my favorite combos is from there, a Savvy 703 with a Citica D on it. It sees mostly 1/4 oz jigs and 3/8 oz spinnerbaits with a little jerkbait action thrown it. I also have a Cumara A with a Chronarch 50e on it. It's my dedicated Senko rod. A Chronarch 200e on a MH *** comes in third. It did frog duty during the summer and it's been on Sammy duty since the pads died. For spinning, I have a Sedona on a St. Croix Triumph. It's nice for just about everything and makes a good all-around setup for pond-hopping. There's also a Quantum Smoke casting reel and a Stradic 1000 MGFB in reserve. I tend to acquire gear throughout the summer and then downsize over the winter. We'll see what stays. Was this more along the lines of what you were looking for in a response? Quote
Paul Peixoto Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 ***\lews tourney pro. My combo to throw everything on right now Quote
mjseverson24 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Try either a shimano compre or clarus. these lineups have good sensitivity especially with the new reel seat which is in my opinion the best seat for transmitting sensitivity to your hand from the rod blank. they have a great warranty program,so you can fish with confidence, they are a bit tip heavy, but not uncomfortably heavy. around 100.00 these are great options for future setups. for a reel it sounds like you enjoy your PQ i would stick with that, if you want a small step up try the citica. GoneFishi'n Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I'm happy throwing my LDC production XH($235). It is paired with a Shimano Cardiff 300($119). You guys should see the price of the baits I buy... I could have bought a car by now haha. 1 Quote
