I called G Loomis customer service today and I feel like I wasted about 4 minutes of my life when I hung up on the rep.

I fish from the bank and I do a lot of pitching into cover with 3/4oz tungsten weighted Texas Rigged soft plastics. My rod is a G Loomis MBR-844 IMX. I feel that this rod is a little light for some of the slop that I pitch into and I called G Loomis today to inquire about the FSR-904X.

The FSR-904X IMX is a heavy power like the 844 but it has a 25# line rating and the 844 has a 20# line rating and they are both rated for up to1oz lures.

All I wanted to know is if the FSR-904X has more backbone that the 844. I know they are both a 4 power but they are different rods so the 4 power is probably not the same for the two rods.

I explained my situation to the rep about how I fish and I know that both rods are a 4 power but I just want to know if the 904 has more backbone than the 844 and here is what I got in return for my efforts......................

Loomis Rep - Where do you get the 4 power thing? These rods are not like fly rods. All the numbers do is tell you the length of the rod. 12x7=84". The rod is 7 feet long.

Me - Yeah I know the rod is 7 feet long but the 4 at the end is the power rating. Just like a MBR783 is 6.5 feet long and it's a medium heavy power. The 844 is is 7 feet long and a heavy power. That is what the 4 at the end means.

Loomis Rep - What if the 904 had a 3 on the end?

Me - Then it would be a medium heavy. You guys used to make a FSR-905X. That rod was extra heavy.

Loomis Rep - Well I don't know what to tell you if you are not going to (I think he said .......take my advice)

Me - With all do respect sir, I think that I know more about your rods than you do. I apologize for wasting your time. You have a nice day.

Too bad. Customer service in general has a bad reputation, undoubtedly well deserved. In general, when not getting satisfaction with a rep it often helps if the customer asks to speak to the rep's supervisor.

Call American legacy fishing. They are a Loomis superstore and have guys that can answer your questions. I swear when I call Loomis direct I'm speaking to a part time convience store clerk.

Example of an awesome customer service woman who knows the product very well. I called the Bushnell Optics customer service about a screw I needed for a scope I purchased back in the mid 90's. She said that model has been outdated for a while now but let me look to see what's available now that will interchange with it. A few minutes passed and she asked me how many screws do I want to order? That's how every customer service should be. She saved me hundreds of dollars by replacing the turret screw rather than me buying a new scope. I make sure all my optics are purchased from bushnell now. I never expected that a customer service person could know the product that we'll. I called them at 8pm at night too.

On the job training doesn't work in customer service if they do not know the products. They hire new people and put them on the job with no knowledge or training before hand.

My hats off to bushnell optics because of there out standing customer service.

Let's look at the car parts places were there computers go back to 1970 only. And they threw out the older parts book system. Now I need a carb kit for my '55 jeep? I get sorry we can't help you. The next day I go to Napa who still has the older parts book and the newer parts puters too.

I had a buddy who you could ask for a part and he could tell you the part number off the top of his head. We don't have people like this in the puter age.

What are we becoming?

Must have been the rep you talked to. I have dealt with Loomis a few times over the years and always been satisfied. I rank them with Ranger and St Croix on easiest to deal with.

Just one reason I no longer buy Loomis rods,,,,,,,some things are better left alone. :Victory:

I've had no issues with Loomis either, crazy they didn't know what you were talking about.  However, I always tend to listen to the local tackle shop guys more than anyone else, although you have to know first if they know what they are talking about.  I think it would be better if you learned to trust a local shop.

As for what you were looking for, I am not sure about the IMX FSR being the same as the (GLX) FPR series (I would assume it is), but they have a stronger back bone in general.  (A 4 power FPR is not the same as a 4 power JWR.)  A 4 power FPR is super strong and I would think that is what you are looking for.  I had accidentally bought a 4 power FPR thinking it was a JWR..comparing each other when I took it back.  It was no contest the FPR series had a hardcore backbone.

That's the saddest thing in the world when your costumer knows more than you about your product!

my customer service philosophy applies to all companies: if you can't get an answer or don't like the answer you get, call back another time and/or day.  ask 10 people the same question and you'll get 10 different answers.

Problems can arise with any customer service rep due to a lack of communication, on their part or the customer. Rods are a very subjective item, everyone has a different take on them.  I prefer to buy a rod in person and make my own decision on the spot, seems to work just fine.

I am going to call back today and to be honest, I hope I get the guy that I talked to yesterday. He thinks that I am wrong about the numbered power rating so I am out to educate him. I know that he doesn't have a clue about the rod that I am interested in but I would still like to educate him on the product that he is answering questions about.

I don't know why I didn't think of this yesterday cause I have read their rod descriptions a million times and the rod description of the MBR842 even says it's a 2 power.

A really nice open-water bass rod designed primarily for bass. It fishes small worms and small to medium-sized jigs well because of the excellent sensitivity and the magnum power in the butt-section. It doubles nicely for fishing buzzbaits thanks to the light tip. It may be a 2-power, but you can whip a big fish with this rod in a heartbeat. It also works well for redfish and snook on the flats.
