Horseshoe crazy Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Thanks guys! Im going a local bass club this spring as a non boater ( but own a boat). The problem is I have never fished in a tournament before. I have fished forever but never just targeted Lmb, mostly crappie and whatever we could get to bit our Lindy rig. Im trying put together a set of rods and presentations/technique to master and become comfortable with. After reading magazines and watching videos. Im just confused on what I need to be successful. So I thought that this question would put in the right direction. Thanks again Quote
LMB ANGLER Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 50 and 80# braid and favor spinning gear so highly, might I ask what species of fish would you be targeting? Ā Me, I do it with 2 combos, 7' med, 15 # braid, and 6'6 ml 10# braid, both spinning. well i just purchase new rods and combos. i use these rods for only freshwater, just like having a flippin stick setup on b/c. i use a 8 ft surf rod spinning reel since they dont make spinning setup for flippin, so i have to make my own. i basically use one piece surf rods for my heavy bass broomsticks. for my saltwater i use your typical 7 ft rod with a penn spinfisher reel and 20 pound braid.Ā Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 23, 2013 Super User Posted October 23, 2013 Horseshoe welcome to bass fishing. I understand wanting to try to get a short list of go-to equipment and baits. The list may not be that short Ā , but there are some fundamental choices that will give you a good start. Roadwarrior has posted many times his basic equipment list of 3 combos. I can't seem to find it now, but it looks much like this: A 6' 6"-7' MediumHeavy Fast/Extra /Fast baitcast combo for single hook baits (jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, etc.), A 6'6"-7' M or MH Moderate action baitcast combo for Ā treble hook baits (crankbaits, topwaters, etc.), A 6'6"-7' Medium Fast/Extra Fast spinning combo for finesse (small unweighted plastics, shakyheads, grubs, etc.). With these three combos you can fish the majority of bass fishing techniques and baits. As time goes on you can (and will) add to the list based on your preferences.Ā Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 When I do club tx's we know the draw ahead of time and touch base with one another a day or two before the tx. We discuss what we expect to be doing. As a co-angler I go out of my way to keep tackle brought on board to a minimum without being put at a disadvantage then add a c-rig which can save the day fishing from the back of the boat. Usually end up actually using 2-3 combos each day. Quote
